Hi Guys,
Ever since my beloved lovebird, Kiki flew away. My family and I always on look out for the appropriate candidate to join us and our Senegal Parrot, Kermit. We've slimmed down to a couple of suitable candidate like the GCC or the Yellow Sided Conure. We like the active, clownish, outgoing, confident and fearless characteristics, and most importantly they aren't noisy and harsh in their calls (which will be an ideal candidate to live with us in the apartment and nt causing disturbance to our neighbors), probably just some intense shrills. Lately a friend of mine suggested me why not a Peach Fronted Conure. Well I've never come across a Peach Fronted Conures before, but after doing some research on the web. I feel that they look really pretty and elegant does have some resemblance of a amazon parrot (comparison with appearance). Ultimately was the description as a much suitable conure in an apartment environment that make me interested to know more abt Peach Fronted Conure. Based on my understanding I know that conures of the Aratinga family are of the noisiest parrots, and Peach Fronted Conure was classified under Aratinga. So I wasn't sure abt the description as "quiet", suitable in an apartment living, sounds of a contradicting to me. Probably any owners of Peach Fronted Conure can share some of your experience and thoughts on this. |

Aren't yellow-sided conures a mutation of the green cheek conure?
IMO, you'd be safer with a pyrrhura conure than an aratinga in an apartment. That said, I have seen ads for GCCs needing new homes b/c of their GCC's loud calls... Some species of aratinga conure are reportedly less loud/noisy/vocal than others. As an apartment dweller, I've had orange-fronted (aka Half-moon or Petz conure), peach-fronted and Dusky conures recommended to me but been advised to stay away from sun, Jenday, gold-capped and Nanday conures. Have you thought about another poicephalous parrot? Maybe a red-bellied or a Meyer's? In any case, I'm sorry about Kiki :(

I stand by my opinion that it depends on the parrot and person... not the species.

pfc can be noisy but their calls are lower in pitch than, let's say the sun's.... i used to live in an apartment - that didn't go well, but again - the call's less high-pitch and i feel it "travels" less

Bee -- I keep forgetting that Nino is a PFC :)

That's definitely an important point to consider. I do think that in many cases, a quiet household might help to foster a quieter parrot, if that makes any sense. Here is an absolutely adorable video of a PFC: YouTube - Conure - Pixie Says Good Morning

Thanks for sharing the info guyz...
Eliza yah you are rite, the yellow sided are mutation of the GCCs. Personally i find GCCs nt really noisy, the vocalizing pretty close to a lovebird, more of a shrill but aren't loud or notorious. I ever had bird sitting a GCCs for a friend who is out of town for some business trip. I quite like the personalities. As for Meyer's and Red Bellied, I ever consider but due availability in my area. There aren't any local breeders breeding Meyer's and Red Bellied. The only poi that's easily avail in my area will be a Senegal Parrot. Thus I really envy people living in the states where they can get the chance to meet lots of different parrots. Probably in Singapore, we have a rather small aviculture. |
