Which Type of Conure???

I recently got a cockatiel and I was interested in maybe getting a friend for her while we were gone. I would not get it until later in the year so Sunny can settle in. I would of course keep them in seperate cages. I want to know which of the aratinga conures are the quietest. I would like to choose from a half moon, nanday, mitred, or blue crown. Which one is the quietest, the most playful, the calmest, and the best talker! Thanks!

Of the ones you've listed, I'd have to say half moon first, then maybe blue crown. Mitred and nandays are rather loud! (and nandays aren't aratingas) But I don't have much experience or read much about half moons. There's also dusky heads and brown throats.

Most playful, calmest and talkative really varies depending on the bird.

This is Kermit. She can be loud if she wants but it's mostly in the morning when she wants me to get up. She loves to talk and she loves people.

Wow. Half moons are beautiful! I hope mine (if I decide to get one) will be as pretty as Kermit. What is their tempermant like? How often does she vocalize and is it loud compared to other conures?

She doesn't have the same pitch as a sun but she can make my ear ring if she screeches on my shoulder. She drives my husband crazy but I can tune her out. She is the loudest on Sat and Sun mornings when she wants everyone to get up. She also get noisy when I dial the phone due to the beeping buttons.

Kermit came home with us when she was 4 months old (she will be 5 next month) and she was already talking. She named herself because she was saying "Hello Kermit" and "step up" at the time. The bird store was boarding a bird named Kermit and she picked it up so we just kept it. We found out at her 1 yr check up that she was a girl. I have no idea how many words she actually says but it's a lot. She has her favorites that we hear over & over and then some we only hear occasionally.

She loves people and loves to spend time on people. In fact I'm her favorite toy. She spends her days on her playstands, one of top of her cage & one sitting beside her cage.

She definitely gives a warning before biting.

I wanted a grey but my kids were too little to handle one so we decided to get a conure. One of my favorite things about her is how her pupils dilate when she gets excited, it reminds of the bigger parrots.

I would be happy to answer any other questions you might have.

My cockatiels screech is ear peircing to when its on your shoulder next to your ear! I will see if I can find one that needs to be adopted or is for sale. I have had budgies in the past and I have a cockatiel now but I have never had the pleasure of owning a parrot.
