Anyone looking for a conure?

Well I hate to do this, but after talking with teh family, we decided on the best thing for our 4 year old conure is to give him away to a person/family that might be able to nurse him back to health or take him to another vet.

It's sad to see the bird be weak and its tremendous weight loss, but were scared too that the xrays/shots are going to kill it like the Vet said.

I'm located in Stamford, CT, about 45 minutes away for anyone that might be interested in the bird. He really loves to be around people alot.

Heres some recent pictures:

I dont think they knew. They gave us 2 meds that we put SUnkist on, but it didn't help. They said the only way to see was to do xrays and some other shots.

Sunkist does eat everyday , hes just lost his weight and strength. He hasn't plucked his feathers or any bizzare behavior.

I have a sick conure too... what kind of meds is yours on? What kinds of injections are they giving your bird. What are they saying that they think it may be? Trust me... you can not just give up on him. What does your vet think the problem is?

I would really like to try and help too. I too have a sick little conure. She is starting to feel much better. I have been using alot of herbal and homeopathic remedies that are working wonders. I understand the financial end... I have spent well over $1000.00 in the last three weeks, so I do understand. You can PM me too if you feel comfortable. Is it an Avian Vet that you are seeing? Have they said anything about Proventricular Dilation Disease? It is dangerous to sedate the bird to do the x-rays because they have to tube the barium into the crop then sedate the bird, take a picture, wait 10-15 sedate the bird, take another picture and see how long it takes for the barium to pass through... does that sound familiar? What are her symptoms and what meds/injections have they given her? Is she having neurological issues? (balance... wobbly... unable to perch?) Is she constantly eating or refusing to eat? Do you have other birds in your house?

NeoCalGlucon Liquid & Baytril Suspension for 2 weeks.

I was thinking it might be PDD, but his poop seems fine, but he does display the symptoms of it. Sunkist eats everyday, I've been putting him on vitamins as well as other foods. Getting him sunlight, fresh air. I can't even put him on my shoulder casue its easy for him to lose balance and fall off.

it's heartbreaking to see his pictures; tears stream at the very thought of this new development. i was just thinking about Sunkist. all this time, i thought he was recovering nicely because we hadn't heard from you. i even just left a post asking for an update...

your post just broke my heart. i can't advise you on what you have to do. i can just hope Sunkist will get all of the medical attention he needs and rightfully deserves. please just consider his best interests during this time.

if anything, and this will not cost you a penny, please contact Dr. Branson Ritchie DVM regarding your case. he is an expert on avian diseases, and i'm an sure he could help you - he might just be able to figure out what is wrong with Sunkist. he is a Professor of Veterinary Medicine with the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia. his picture can be found on the department's page here: The UGA College of Veterinary Medicine

and, after a quick search of him on the department's website, i was able to find his contact information:

RITCHIE, BRANSON W.: department: SMALL ANIMAL MEDICINE, phone: 705-542-6316, room: H316, and email: britchieuga.edu

this info was located here: UGA College of Veterinary Medicine Directory

and, if you need it, the department's phone number and email are: 706.542.3221 and hospital@uga.edu <hospital@uga.edu>

lastly, if you are unable to provide/find him a good home that would treat him, i urge you to contact your local Humane Society (or any other REPUTABLE animal shelter). they may be able to take him and treat him. at the very least, they may be able to find him a good home where they would treat him. please look into this!!!

please keep us updated!!!
