Question Odd Jenday behavior ..

So I was just hanging out & laying on the couch when I saw my Jenday, Clementine, doing this in her cage .... What is she doing??

I dunno... but given that your bird is all puffed up and swaying around like it's off balance or dizzy or something, I'd be taking it to the vet and fast.... I hope there are others here who could tell you more that more experience, but this is just from what I'm seeing.. the bird looks ill.

I can pretty much guarantee that she isn't sick. She's sitting on me right now, preening my hair.

Did she finally unfluff? Was there something odd going on that would cause her to stay puffed and sway like that? I've never seen anything like that. Rico will sway on occassion, but it's from foot to foot... like he hears music, and he's not fluffed. Glad to hear your bird isn't acting sick, but I think a well bird can preen, also. The puffed up part was the first thought of sickness, as puffed birds acting 'strange' is supposidly a hallmark for being ill.

Yes she finally unfluffed after she herd the click from my camera. It was almost like she was in a trance. There wasn't anything out of the ordinary going on at home, the normal everyday noises and things going on. Her owner prior to me told me that she gets fluffed up when she gets excited over something.

To me, that appears to be aggressive behavior... i.e. I'm big, I'm bad, DON'T mess with me or you *WILL* get trouble! And she's also doing it over the hut so I suppose she is protecting her "nest," in which case I'd recommend removing the hut.

I agree with the anger idea. That is just what my sun looks like when he is super pissed. It even looks like he goes to bite something...maybe it is the hut or maybe a different toy too. Is there anything new in the cage?

Only thing that I've put in her cage recently has been fruit. She's had the hut since I got her cage put together & has never shown any aggression or anything with the hut.

Moki does something like that too, if he's woken up and bothered while sleeping in his sleeping cage. He doesn't do it to me, but he does it if the kids are around (he doesn't like kids). He is doing a lot better now, but when he first came home this is how he acted. I think your Jenday is guarding the nest. I would take that nest out if it continues. Sorry.

By the way, have you had your Jenday DNA sexed or are you just guessing about the gender? Moki does both male (humping) behavior and female (nest guarding, etc) behavior so I was just curious. We are just calling him a boy because he's never been DNA sexed.

fruit, as in the food? Hmmm, I doubt that is it. What about right outside the cage.

I recently found out that my conure is terrified of plastic bags, and we had one outside his cage (but was in view) and he was weird until we moved it. Birds can be so hyper sensitive like that.
