Lol i can't believe this

HI everyone i couldn't believe this i was laughing in my head. The breeder i got my sun conure off reckons all the problems i had with Bailey is cause i clipped his wings.
Someone please tell me how would wing clipping cause loss of weight, stinky poo and runny poo. To my knowledge wing clipping should make the bird gain weight not loss weight. An wing clipping has nothing to do with stinky poo and runny poo.

Bailey seems to be going up and down in weight one day he weigh 105grams the next day 103grams. He seems to eatting the same amount of food each day. I guess i'm used to seeing birds at the food dish all the time my other birds are forever eatting.

You are right. Clipping wings should make them gain since they aren't flying around everywhere. Sounds like your breeder is mistaken. Nothing to do with runny poop. Have you taken him to be seen by a vet? That weight loss is staggering and not eating would be an emergency situation, especially for a bird since they have such high metabolisms. Sending you my best wishes. Let us know what your find out.

Let's assume, for a moment, that a bird was flighted and then suddenly became flightless...

Would that not lead to increased stress, less exercise, a general listlessness and at least a couple, if not all, of the symptoms listed above?

I think your bird should be taken to a vet ASAP and this should have been the first response from the breeder - stinky poo is not a trifiling matter - but clippnig the wings *could* have been a major contributor to the symptoms listed IMO - that is a decrease in immune response due to increased stress and decreased exercise.

I'm in a town that has no avian vets the cloest avian vet to me is in melbourne about 7 hours drive one way. I thought there was an avian vet about 3 hours drive from me i rang them turns out he isn't a vet just someone that deals with birds. I did take him to one of the vets here they said his completely healthy, I asked them to do a fecal sample but she said theres no need to, his bright, active, alert,at a good weight mind you he weighed 96grams,his temperture is normal. I rang the other vet that is here they have no avian vets either, they said they will see birds but i dare say i'll get the same answer i did from the other vet.

Vets here as long as the bird is still active, alert, bright eyes and feathers its completely healthy to them. His poos don't stink no more and there getting firmer so maybe a stress thing. I've only owned Bailey for 2 weeks.

Apple and pear will cause runny poop because of their high water content - but (the poop) should not be stinky. To me pear and especially apple should be limited in the diet since they are high in sugars and low(er) in nutrition...

bird stools should not have a pungent smell. I would personally go back to the vet and tell them you want to run a fecal test ask them to make a slide of his stool and check for yeast and parasites under the microscope it's ultimately your choice not the vets they cannot deny you a couple fecal tests thats madness especially since birds hide illness very will and usually when they start to show signs that they are in fact sick it is usually too late.

All of Rogers advise is exactly what I was thinking.

We don't feed pear because they fill up on water instead of food, and the birds only get a small slice of organic apple each day. I can see how a combination of what you are feeding and the stress of the wing clipping can be the cause of two of your problems.

The fact that the poop was smelly for days could be a serious concern. Collect the poop for a few days and put it in something sterile (like a cleaned pill bottle) and keep it in the fridge.

You can tell a vet to do a gram stain (fecal sample). It's your bird, not theirs. Any vet could send it off to a lab for results. My vet says there is no cause for concern with my birds and I still insist on gram stains when we go for our yearly checkup!

And exactly what sillyarwenbird said....

I agree with Holly, if your paying for the test you can tell them to run it or not to run it. An birds are very good at hiding illness, they may look bright and alert, but still be sick. My sun was sick a few weeks ago and they only thing that told me I should call a vet is his poop was really nasty looking, it didn't smell, but it was still out of the ordinary. An when I took him sure enough he had a yeast infection, only slight because we caught it in time, but they only way we found out was a fecal exam.
