plucking sun conure

do conures pluck themselves? She didnt pluck her body but I did notice there are some small yellow feathers on the bottom of her cage and I looked at her legs and they are bare but I dint know if that is normal since I have never seen this. Her whole leg isnt bare just a little above where her feet start. Kinda in the ankle area if she had ankles.......any advice on what the little whit/yellow feathers are on the bottom of her cage and why her ankle area is bare and is it suppose to be?

Can you post a pic? I can tell you that right now we're in 'everyone MOLT' phase around here!! I do find some yellow 'fluff' feathers and a few white downs in Rico's cage and Papi's cage often, though. Neither are plucking...just kind of a 'continuous' *soft* molt of getting in new feathers. They also play kind of rough...

Rayne also loses her little green ones kind of often from preening and getting in new ones. My only plucker is Ziva. I think it's normal..but a pic would help.

To answer your original question, though... yes, conures can be pluckers, too.

Our nanday usually is pretty bare around the insides of his legs during his molts where his little red legwarmers are. The first time I noticed that I freaked and thought he had plucked because the insides of his legwarmers didn't have much red left. A pic would definitely help, but this sounds exactly like what Maverick goes through every molt. I wouldn't be too alarmed.

I too worried about this with Neko but Im crossing my fingers that he is going through a molt and not plucking. He has little pinfeathers around his head and belly so Im sure it is normal with mine as it is with your little one. As others said, a picture would definitely help.

it sounds like she's just molting, but a pic would be helpful to confirm this.
