Question Stool form & scratching on both sides of beak

Hello everyone.

I have two questions today.

The first one is about the form and texture of stools for a green cheek conure. Kiwi is about 5 months old and it seems kind of liquid. The usine seems to be in a clear format and the fecal matter is greenish and very watery. Any hints on what I could do? I have had Kiwi for about 3 weeks now.

Second question is about scratching. Kiwi does like to bathe but seems to scratch allot on each cheek on each side of the beak. Could that mean he/she has mites or something or is this normal behavior? I would say Kiwi scratches between 5-8 times a day.

Thank you for your responses. I will post pictures as soon as I have a chance.

Marie :)

mine use their branch perches to scrath their faces & heads CONSTANLY. I'm pretty sure it's normal. Mine do it more when they are molting but when they are out they want me to give them scratches too. My conures do this more then any of the other birds - but they do all do it.

The poop really depends on what you're feeding them. Many bags will tell you what to expect for poo. I feed my Kiwi Zupreem pellets, which make his poos big and round, but if he eats a lot of the different colors, they tend to have a reddish tint. Check the bag and let us know what you're feeding him and what it says.

Fresh foods also make the feces watery. Got a photo of it? As for scratching, that's normal. Verrrry normal.

Goodness if I had to count how many times Neko scratched in a day I would be doing it for hours. That is completely normal, as everyone else said. As far as the stools go, totally depends what they are eating. If Neko gets a lot of fruit his poop is super watery. He's had a lot of pellets lately which has made things pretty dark and green. Just depends on the diet.
