im so frustrated!!!

jojo is molting. :/ shes being a snot. i dont even care about the attitude so much, but she hates being scratched. is this normal??? she's never been such a big fan, but i figured with the pin feathers all over her neck she'd appreciate the help. boy was i mistaken. she doesnt bite, but she does shove me away with her beak. do i persist or leave her alone?? i feel like shes going backwards socially as well. she never liked to hang out on shoulders for long periods but now she doesnt even like to leave the vicinity of her cage. :( we used to get ready together in the morning...

Just keep trying to keep her socialized the best you can for now. I would leave the pin feathers alone if they are bothering her enough to push you away. They do go through some moodiness when moulting, so hang in there.

Rocky is molting right now to and sometimes he loves the scratches and sometimes he will nip at my fingers if I try to scratch him and he doesn't want it. They do get moody when molting, you can still try and give her scratches if she pushes you away them just give her some space for a little bit and try later. Her pins might really be bothering her, have you tried giving her a warm bath? Rocky loves to take warm baths, I think they feel good to him with all those pin feather poking out everywhere!

Rubbing those pins very gently in the shower while warm water is running over them helps a lot. It's difficult to crack open the big ones without causing the bird some discomfort. Several ouchies in a row and they wont want you touching them anymore, that's understandable.

I think that when they are molting they just kind of have little attitude problems. Oliver used to love scratches, now that he is molting (and has been for like 3 months!) he wont let me touch him. I wonder sometimes if I was actually hurting him or just plain bugging him. He will come around again, he's just uncomfortable. Definitely try the misting, I know water can be very helpful with molts.

I've been taking Kiwi with me whenever I shower. He loves it and it puts him in a better mood. He also lets me do whatever I want as long as the water is hitting him. They're uncomfortable with the molt, but I just try to break the pins with my finger nails instead of squeezing (which just upsets him more than anything), and then he scratches away the left overs. It's a good system.

Amira won't let me touch her for a day or two when she starts molting.. She has had bad pin feathers since friday or saturday or so... and wouldn't let me touch them until today. I guess when they're growing in they're still tender, so let them settle in and she'll let you get them off soon enough. There is one spot on her neck that Amira will NEVER let me touch... I don't get it. But just realize this.. you're a girl... she's a girl. There's times you want to be left alone... she's no different. lol.

Molting is very uncomfortable for birds... So it is understandable that sometimes they dont want to be touched.
