Sound proofing... Conure: 1, Human: ALSO 1 !!!!
Some of you wanted to know how my plan for soundproofing my room goes, so here it is. IT WORKED!!!!
I put up two sound absorptive sheets on the walls of the corner where the cage is (to prevent the corner from acting like a loud speaker), and one wrapped around the sides and the back of her cage (front and top side remained exposed). When she starts screaming, or when I have to leave, I just rotate the cage by 90 degrees, which makes the front exposed part of the cage face the absorptive sheet on the wall and the window right next to it (so the cage remains extremely well lit and she can look outside the window and watch the street for entertainment). Thus, the sheet wrapped around the back of the cage absorbs the waves coming into the room, while the ones on the wall prevent reflection of the sound back into the room as well as transmission through the walls. This cut down the noise inside the room by at least 50%. I also put up two absorptive sheets over the door. This cut down the noise to the living room by 80%, and anything reaching my roommate's bedroom by at least 95%. Now, she can barely tell if the Nara is awake or asleep from inside her room, and if the TV is on, it's impossible for her to hear anything. The best part of this is that Nara's screams immediately dropped in frequency by more than three quarters. As I told you before, the only squawks I couldn't train out of her were the ones she let out when I left/entered the room, simply because there was no way on earth I can consistently ignore those. Now, however, she quickly realized that these squawks no longer work either, and she chirps or says hello when I enter/leave, like she does for everything else. Another amazing advantage is that now, when it's time for bed, I just rotate her cage and cover the top part, and voila, Nara is set for nice uninterrupted sleep. The sound of the TV or us going in and out of the room seems to no longer bother her. So, life is back to normal and can now proceed smoothely without me having to stress all the time about annoying my neighbors or my roommate. Sun conures no longer have to be apartment-unfriendly pets!!! I suppose the final score on this one Human: 1, Spawn of Satan - errr I mean Sun conure: 0

I just slide in and out from the side. Its kinda light weight and lifts off very easily.
They're not the most decorative product out there, and they only come in that color, but goddamn if set up properly, they help a lot (and they're not expensive). I would highly recommend you use a similar set up to mine though. I experimented with so many configurations and that was the one that cancelled out the most noise. I would say 70% of the effectiveness lies in the set up. Feel free to send me a message if you want more info about the product itself.

Ok, so I emailed the vendor this morning with my review and pictures of my set up. I told them it was a great solution that many bird owners I know are going to appreciate. They were very happy and said they'll give a $5 discount to anyone I know who is buying those sheets for controlling noise from their birds (and will give me one for free!). They just emailed me the promotional code for the $5 discount, it's: birdnoise5 . I guess you just enter that when you're checking out and it'll deduct $5 off your invoice.
The website where I bought them is Sound Proofing, Soundproofing Material: Lowest Prices - Audimute Soundproofing (I found them by googling "sound absorption sheet"). I will stress one more time that you need to follow a set up similar to mine for optimal results (wall + back of cage + door). Putting all the sheets over the door helped very little. Distributing them in that configuration cancelled out most of the noise both inside and outside the room. Mind you, you'll need a dark sheet to cover the top of the cage when your bird goes to sleep. Also, if your bird is screaming, you might want to put something on top of the cage to limit the amount of sound escaping from the top and bouncing on the ceiling. That's why it's best to have the whole thing near a window so that enough light comes in and your bird stays enterained with whatever is going on outside.

... I wonder if those things will keep the great horned owl hoots out of my bedroom.
![]() We have some "magic pillows" that block out the towhees, sparrows, phoebes, and finches... but for some reason that owl (and mourning dove) goes right through the pillow. Hmmm!
