I have 2 conures. A cinnamon and a regular green cheek. My cinnamon is much louder then my green cheek. Not sure if its because they are a different sex and a different age or because we have had one longer then the other all I know is Zoe is much more of a screamer then Zeus.

You ask what's loud? Here ya go:

Xaf will demonstrate. My video cam speaker could not handle his screams.

YouTube - xafsmom's Channel

Imagine that, amplified "in person" non-stop until your ears ring and your eyes bleed.

That's the potential of a Jendaya (which Xaf is) and a Nanday.

OMG! I thought Pedro was loud! I had my volume all the way up and had to turn it down...I even have a little headache now!!!

Every species is a little different and every bird is unique. With that being said, you will find different types of Conures from Central to South America.

I think they can all be noisy and nippy and cuddly, LOL. Their moods can change with seasons, hormones and moulting times. They are very smart, so they need constant supervision when out of their cages. Some types are known to be talkers others not so much, and again it depends on the individual personality of the bird.

They are considered small to medium size parrots and can range from around 8 to 18 inches heal to tail.

From what I remember and to my surprise, there are about 40 or so species of conures.

Some of the classes or generas are: Pyrrhurra, Aratinga, Nandayus, Cyanoliseus (patagonians), Leptosittaca (golden plumed). I believe there are a few more...

So to answer the question about noise, they smaller pyrrhurra conures can be just as noisy as the larger ones. The main difference is the volume that they are able to project. Some of the larger ones, like our cherry head for example, can make your ears bleed.

Umm... OK... it's NOT just Angel!! OMG... I REALLY feel for you! That sounds like Angel if *I* go into the room he's in! Plus Angel stays puffed from head to tail feathers... and keeps up this shrieking until I leave. Gives me a headache!

Xaf is our champion screamer. If screaming doesn't do the job, he'll hustle down to the floor and attack your feet. If THAT doesn't do the job, he'll climb your person and attack your face.

He's deadly serious about his personal bubble not being broached. Unfortunately, his personal bubble is the size of the Titanic.

Which is why we reconsidered bringing Angel back into the living room! However, we are turning the little bedroom into a 'bird room' for him and Papi. Still seperately caged, able to keep Angel from attacking me, and they can have some out of cage playtime together.

I honestly didn't know that Xaf was *that* loud!

Oh dear me... Xaf's a noise amature compared to Pepper! LOL I really thought suns were louder for some reason I guess it's all the hype. Pepper is much, much louder. If I had only known about cherry heads before going partially deaf from Pepper. His screams used to make my ears ring for about ten minuets, now they aren't ringing any more. Not a good sign....

That isn't a good sign, Holly! LOL

The video didn't even come close to what Xaf sounds like in life. The speakers couldn't handle it. But, it's a good example.

I bet they are about the same in volume then. Good grief, what we go through for love. Of course Pepper throws in the odd scream of COME ON! when he wants us. LOL He is very demanding and bossy.
