Exclamation A bit of an emergency...

Is it just me, or does my bird have the habit of breaking blood feathers on public holidays? Today Koki broke two blood feathers, one which we removed ourselves, another which we took him to the vet to get fixed.

The problem is, he hasn't stopped bleeding. The vet put a little seal on this wound from the feather being pulled out, but I think he's scratched that off and it's bleeding again... what should I do? I know it needs to clot, but do you guys think that will happen? There's blood on his tail and beak from him 'cleaning'...

Please guys D: I don't know what to do... Koki's never bled this much before...

I'm assuming you don't have kwik stop, so perhaps some corn starch? That was the only thing that stopped Nara's nail from bleeding when I didn't have kwik stop.

Oh god. We don't have Kwik stop or corn starch... I don't know what to do. What are the chances he could bleed to death?

How much blood are we talking? If you don't have those two things, use regular flour.

About three hours ago he was literally spraying blood everywhere. Now he's not exactly dripping [thank god] but it just looks like the blood is sluggishly coming out of where his feather was... the vet whom we visited earlier said that there wasn't a wound... I think it's a matter of him touching it too much. It's not dripping, but rather sluggishly coming out. Do you think he'll survive tonight? I just need him to stay alive until tomorrow so we can take him to a specialist.

if he's lost a lot of blood (and, remember, since Conures are so small what we think is a little blood is actually a lot) get him to an avian vet as soon as you can.

i know he's probably sleeping right now since it's so late, but can you check on him to see how he's doing and report back (i'm going to be online for the next couple of hours)?

and, just to reiterate: you can use either cornstarch or flour to stop bleeding; and, i've read that "Kwik Stop" can burn on contact with skin, so refrain from using that if you have to in the future.

also, are there any after-hours/24 hour regular vets in your area that you can take him to right now? if there are, they probably won't have an avian specialist, but the regular vets will definitely be able to stabilize him.

Spraying blood!? That doesn't sound good. I've had a lot of birds with broken blood feathers but none ever sprayed and I never had to take any to the vets. I would asap if I were you.

Im wondering why the vet didnt keep him and take care of this when you took him in. It sounds like hes losing a large amount of blood especially since it doesnt sound like its stopping. Hopefully at this point he's done bleeding, please keep us updated. If he needs to go to the vet, do take him. They might have another method of stopping the blood if need be.

the poster, in the first post, said that the vet did put a seal on it, however, it seems that he has since scratched the seal off which caused the subsequent bleeding.

i really hope he's ok!!! i had this sinking feeling last night when i saw that the poster signed out without leaving a message in response to my posts.... i realy hope the little guy is fine.

please update when you can, ConureLove!!! i really worry when i read these kinds of posts :S. so, any info would be appreciated, if you can.
