How social are nandays?

I just wanted to know how social a nanday conure might be with other birds. I've been considering getting another bird - perhaps a cockatiel (I've seen one up for adoption). Indie gets a good few hours flight time when I come home and isn't stressed out or upset - just thought I could do a good deed and give him a companion to chat to. Although he is only a year old, and I do worry about him becoming attached to a bird who most likely won't outlive him and vice versa. He is my angel (even if he throws tantrums) and I'm just thinking of things that might be good for him.

There's no guarantee that he'd get along with another bird. Nandays have hybridized with gold capped conures, sun conures, jendays, even green cheek conures and hahns macaws... My cherry headed conure is buddies with a cockatiel, and I've heard of stories of other conures getting along with tiels, budgies, and quakers...

But there's no guarantee that your conure will enjoy a buddy of his own. In fact, my mitred conure *DOES NOT* get along with any of the other birds in this house. I *KNOW* he would like a buddy, but nobody likes him, and I don't blame the other birds!


Chances are, he'd probably enjoy a friend, but just keep in mind, a bird of a difference size could either be harmed by your nanday, if smaller, or your nanday could be harmed by the larger bird... if the two were ever together.
