Are foam shapes safe?

I have started seeing many small bird toys made with foam pieces. I had never used them before because I assumed they were too easily chewed up and swallowed and therefore unsafe. Are they safe or does anyone else use them?

I have read that if swallowed they could cause impaction so I've stayed away from the foam toys.

We would never use them for Sydney.

Soft rubber toys: Soft rubber or plastic parts can be confused as a food product. They may also contain toxic chemicals as well as lead and cadmium.

Foam/Cellophane/Styrofoam: There have been some bird toys released recently that are made of foam parts. Foam & cellophane can be a dangerous choking hazards for birds.

I would never use them either. Sometimes you look at toys and just shake your head, and wonder what they were thinking!

A few toys I had had those foam beads on them-
my p'lets shredded one in a matter of what seemed like minutes
I worried they were eating it so I cut the remaining ones off

I even pulled the shredded papers out of the ball toy because I was
scared they would be ingesting too much

I sure never thought they were safe. Our rescue had some donated toys for budgie size birds that had thick foam stars in them. Needless to say we took apart the toys, took out the foam and remade them with small wood pieces and plastic beaded pieces for the budgies. But then since I have seen them sold at two bird fairs and several bird toy websites besides being in a couple pet stores so I thought I would ask opinions. Guess I will stick with my first guess and not use them! I know in all the toys we make for the rescue and to sell for money for the rescue we stay away from the foam and stick to pieces we know
