Silicone

i was wondering if the silicone that u can get to repair fish tanks is safe to use to glue 2 pvc end caps back to back?

i've used this product before on fish tanks
and since fish are very sensitive to chemicals in the water i was just curious if i could use this silicone to glue the end caps on to make a food/water dish

if this is not a safe product to use

what would u guys recommend as an alternative?

and it's too soft - easily chewed away.

i'd go with contact cement or epoxy

pvc glueing

The best way to connect any PVC is to use the cement designed just for PVC. You just have to flatten and smooth out the 2 end caps and then clean them with the PVC cleaner and prime them with the PVC primer and then cement them with the PVC cement.
That will hold them together for ever. I make custom parrot bowls by using this method and it holds up to the meanest greenwing chewers.

just a question
are the cleaner and primer bird safe?
and do u just prime the area where the contacts are made or the entire outside of the bowl?

Thought I'd throw in a tid bit, silicone doesn't bond strongly(actually, at all) to plastics. Plus, like was already said, to soft and easily eaten. PVC primer and cement should be safe. Your water flows through it every day(or copper or galvinized piping), and you give this water to your birds. I would try to use as little as possible, carefully coating just the surfaces that will touch. Primer is very runny, so just a little.
