The boing instructions seem unnecessarily complicated.
Having read the instructions it seems like you can get the same results by taking a wire clothes hanger and shaping it into whatever you want. Then just braid 3 pieces of rope or cloth or whatever around that and secure it at the end. You could even use a bottle cap for the top, just puncture a hole in it and twist it around a couple times to make the hangar. Im going to try this tomorrow, I would right now but its 1:30 am.

ok so materials
1. bird safe rope (keep in mind when it's finished and kinda twisted around and around the boing will become shorter than what u started with... the one i used in that pic was a 10 ft rope) ... so u need to also take in consideration the thickness of the rope 2. steel wire ( the guage will depend on how heavy your bird is. i used 12 guage for my grey as he is about 430 grams) also u need the steel wire to be a bit longer than the rope's length (since i used 10 ft of rope i cut 6inches extra) 3. two zip ties 4. hot glue gun & glue sticks 5. 2 caps for the ends of the boing (i used pvc caps but u cna use whatever u like (2 holes drilled in each cap) I will try my best to explain this as best as i can step 1: cut your rope step 2: tape both ends of the rope with tape (this will keep the ends from fraying step 3:poke one end of your wire UP THROUGH the "head" of your rope so u have wire stickign up step4: poke the wire through one of the holes in your cap step5: use pliers to bend the wire back into the cap to make a loop. u have to make sure the wire goes back into the rope. zip tie the rope as clsoe to the edge as u can. then u can put a lot of hot glue at the end of the cap and push the rope up step 6: so now u have your "head" cap of the boing on... now to feed the wire through out the rope itself. this is actually the simple part. so u "untwist the rope a bit at a time and u push the wire in the middle of the rope. as u go along u will notice the rope is quite loose. dont worry bout this for now 7: so you have wire running the length of the rope. now to tighten the rope. start at the head of the boing. twist the rope right aroudn the wire through out the length of the rope 8: now the tricky part. zip tie the end of the rope. poke the wire through the first hole of your 2nd cap and loop the wire back into the second hole. makign sure the wire goes back into the rope. (same step u did when started the boing). hot glue the rope to the cap TADA yer done! :D hope i explained it well if not let me know what you are confused with

This is a very helpful thread. I'm going to start making my own from now on because those expensive ones I buy at the store normally only last Phoenix a couple days. She just shreds the rope, thread by thread, by the PVC cap base until all that's left are the PVC end caps attached to her cage and the long braided rope at the bottom of the cage... lol

I'm also interested in making a boing. I bought 10 feet of manilla rope at a hardware store. Is there a way to tell if it has anything toxic on it? I know some types of rope can have oil on it and I forgot to ask when I bought it.
