Here are some links to some sites that have toy parts and rope. I think for the multi colored you could just get regular rope and dye it with food coloring.

I thought that for bird use - that poly rope was bad and a big no-no - due to the trace metals which have been found in the rope???? If anyone has any knowledge about this and can point me in a definitive direction I would be very grateful!!!!

Well, I don't know about trace metals, but if so, then all those people making atoms and other playgyms would be making a huge mistake. I would guess that someone will let us know, but for now, the poly rope is shown in many DIY gyms and other toys. So please let us know.
