What type of wire is safe to use when making toys?

I was at Lowe's today and can't find stainless steel wire. Where should I be looking for it?? Thanks

What type of wire are clothes hangars? Also would they be safe to use if the bird wasn't coming into direct contact with them.

Micah- are you talking about the wire at Ace that is little teeny strands all wound together? I have some of that, but I was worried about the end that comes out the other side of the crimp. What's the best way to cover that?
It's really sharp.

I make a little loop at the end and then weld the sharp part to the straight part with a soldering gun!
