Question Splinters?

Just one question. I put a piece of scrap wood in my tiels cage. He has been chewing on it and I wonder if he could get splinters from it? I'm not sure of the type, it's about 3/4" thick.

splinters happen, we all get them, but remember birds evolved in trees and trees are made of wood. as soon as i give a wooden toy to my macaw or my conure, it becomes splinters. they just chew um up and spit um out.

I have to agree but Sophie has choked on a splinter of wood before. FREAKED ME OUT! She started vomiting and bobbing her head but after a minute she must have worked it out and was ok. That being said, she still chews on wood and has never had any other problems with it. I think it was just a freak thing. I would make sure that the wood is bird safe and not treated with anything though. There are quite a few types of wood that are toxic to birds and if it is treated you bird could get really sick.
