Pinata
Anyone have any ideas on how to make a small pinata and the supplies I need for it? I enjoy crafting things and plan on getting a budgie soon that I would like to be creative making toys for. I like the toy pinatas at the store but they are bigger than what I would like. I know a paper bag is similar or a small box, but I like the frilly look too. Suggestions on what materials are safe?

Pinatas are just paper mache. Paper mache is really easy. It's just flour and water mixed into a paste. You dip strips of paper/newspaper into the past and stick it on your pinata form. after it dries you are done. Here is a site that goes into more detail. The only downside I could see is that even though it's not a lot of flour and water, it probably wouldn't taste to good and that could keep the birds from chewing on it. Of course, my budgies love to chew on cardboard and I can't see that tasting good so who knows. Maybe I'll give it a try. For color you could maybe try dying white paper with food coloring and water and let it dry. I don't know if it would work or not. Better yet, you could add food coloring to the water/flour mixture.
