Preparing Apple Tree Branches

My landlord clipped her apple tree
no sprayed with anything

was wondering what u guys do to prepare the wood

like boil it?
scrub it?


any info would be grat

When I use sticks from outside, I stick them in the oven for a few minutes to kill anything that might be on them. I think I set the oven to about 350 degrees for ten minutes, if I remember right. (Take 'em out quicker if you smell them start to scorch! LOL) After they cool off, I cut them to size and place them in the cage.

for small ones i scrub them with a stiff brush and hot water and put them in the oven,for bigger ones i wash and scrub them and let them soak them in the bath with a little bleach for a while then wash them well again and let them dry somewhere airy for a few days to a week.
