what types of ropes are safe?

I am going to making a playgym and hopefully new rope perches shortly, and i am wondering what ropes are safe? This is going to be for a tiel that is 85% of the time with us. But also the only perches he has are rope ones, so need something that he can be left alone without supervision for a while, if that helps any. Thanks

Sisal, plain cotton and vegetable tanned leather. Nothing that is coated.

Uncoated hemp rope is safe as well.

Watch the sisal you get, buying it from a hardware or home depot and its usually oily feeling and smelling. You DONT want this kind at all. Try getting some that specifys that its animal safe, a lot of places sell it for cats to make scratching posts and its safe for birds as well because the cats can't have the oily kind either.

All the rest above mentioned are good choices as well. Good luck!

i picked up the sisel rope from walmart, and looks like i am not going to use it. my tiel is afraid of it, go figure. Also i think i may have picked up the oily rope that was mentioned, the paper wrapper had some oliy marks. One other question is i noticed that sisel sort of has hair that sticks out everywhere, is that safe for a bird to eat?

The sisal is fine if its the non oily kind, it is pretty rugged..actually I never had much luck with it...probably my birds least favorite kind of rope.

looking around at some petshops online, mostly bird shops, i keep coming across "poly rope". Is this stuff safe, the nice thing about it is that it is pre-colored. Or should i go with supreme cotton braided rope instead, and just dye it myself?

I think someone on here made a parrot orbit/atom thing using poly rope to cover the perches. It looked really nice too.

I have been using poly rope to hold bird toys. When I ordered it, it said that it is bird safe but I would be sure your bird doesn't eat any of it. It is really durable, so it would be hard to get it to fray. The stuff I have is dishwasher safe too.

I went to the local Home Depot to see what kinds of ropes they have(for possible bird toy making) They have white nylon rope. Is that considered safe? Its soft and I thought it looked similar to cotton rope (but shiney).
