PVC Gym no slip

I got my hubby to make my birds a PVC gym to play on. I had it wrapped in Sisal rope but it smelled funny and I realized it was treated and not safe for them so I took it off. I wanted to get something to wrap it in so they don't slip off. Does anyone think this will work?

NO Slip Gripper CARPET MATS RUGS PHONES Grip 12"x144" ! - eBay, Other Home Garden, Home Garden. (end time 15-Mar-09 02:58:59 AEDST)

I know I can use vet wrap but that is really expensive by me. I may try to ruff it up with sandpaper but I would rather wrap it. Please let me know what you think of the stuff in the link.

Thanks

How much is vet wrap in your area? I found some at atwoods for 2$ a roll... don't know how big ur playstand is though.

I don't think I'd use the stuff you linked, I doubt its safe to chew on. What is it made of? Maybe someone here will know for sure... GL on that search.

I used sandpaper to rough up the pvc & get the words off... and then took my dremel and scored the pipe horizontally to make it easier to grip.

I've read before about 2 other things.... one is the skateboard stuff.... and other is the nonslip self adhesive tape for boat dock steps. Not sure about the safety of those either, but its worth looking into.

I took a piece of 60 grit (rather course) sandpaper and ran it down each piece of PVC 2 or 3 times lengthwise. My birds have no trouble whatsoever gripping it. That sounds much safer to me than putting vetwrap on, which I think they'll end up chewing off.

WOW that is a cool looking gym. What kind of rope did you use? I may just try to do the sandpaper. Not to sure yet. Once I am done with it I will post a pic of it so you call can see. I think it's really cool looking.

I used untreated Sisal rope 1/4", since I have small to medium sized birds. I got it at Bird Supply of New Hampshire on line. It was 12.00 for a 100' roll. The vetwrap at my local Tractor Supply store is generally used for horses, it comes in a bunch of different colors. It was 2.49 a roll. Not sure how big the rolls are though. I wrapped the PVC twice and still had plenty left over.

How do you know if the sisal rope is untreated or not? Does your bird try and chew the vet wrap?

I ordered some sisal online so I could see what it smells like.... the stuff in my local stores all smells very different and is slick/oily feeling too. So far I haven't found any untreated locally. :( big bummer too.
