Playstands

Here are some of the stands that my hubby made. They are all dowels and used a laminate florring on the bases. The large one is on wheels and we sold it at the bird show yesterday!!! He was so excited!!

We may make more and take to another show in the fall.

Just wanted to share...oh and he is looking into making the same style with wrought iron.

Those are gorgeous, lucky you to have such an industrious hubby!

I think I read somewhere that wrought iron can be bad for birds (though I am not sure what parts of the stand you are talking about using it for and I am only overly cautious since Puffletoo had begun licking anything metal-powdercoated or otherwise) if anyone has any info on that I'd love to know since I am not sure what metals make up wrought iron.

What are the bases on the stands? Like a big wooden disk? Looks really great.

Nice! As far as wrought iron being safe, most cages are made of iron, and then powder-coated. There isn't any problem with iron unless it's rusty.

The disks are large pine disks.

The large stand we sold yesterday at the show for 125. Had it marked for 175. Its on wheels, and its 64 inches high. We are looking at the wrought iron because the guy that runs the show said that his cockatoo would destroy a wood stand which is true! Although my umbrella wouldn't because she is just not into wood like that. So we will see how it goes. Takes my husband quite awhile to make a stand but I think they are pretty cool! And very easy to clean!!

LOL stand envy! My husband got the disks at Lowes...They are in the back where all the wood is. They come in HUGE which we will be using for a large macaw stand that he is going to make. He doesn't use any screws or hardware to attach, everything is grooved out and he uses wood glue (inside not outside where the birds can get it) on the posts. He may have to screw the large perch together but so far they are REALLY sturdy. Covered with vinal floor tiles that wipe up very easily. I don't like the stands that have a lip around them, too much crap gets in the corners.

Fantastic, thanks! Can't type now going to Lowes! ;) I've been using garage sale end tables for play stands I've made and looking around for something that was nice and round with no success. The snow lid things a lot of people use I can only find in BRIGHT EYE BURNING NEON colors which may be great for my birds but I'd be blind in no time.
