Trial Harness w/ pics

The Aviator harness is really expensive, and before I buy 2 of them I wanted to see the reaction from my fids. So I made a Trial harness

I WILL buy an aviator harness and I will NOT take my birds outside in my creation because I don't really trust it... but it did give me the feeling that Meena would allow it. She stuck her head through it & wasn't bothered too much.

Cost to make: $1 & one super old crummy bra.... cut the strap adjustment slider out of it.

I got a spool of Trim from the Walmart Craft section that felt similar to a tiny dog leashs... I already had needle & thread.

Well, I'm gonna practice w/ Meena some more tomorrow, maybe I'll get a picture w/ an actual Fid! lol.

Thank goodness the $1 spool of trim is 9ft long.... because my neck hole strap is a little long on one side. :)

Again, I do not advise making a harness for outside/flight use. Too many factors have to be considered.... weight of harness, thickness of harness, width of straps, weight of seams, chewability, durability, strenght, etc.

That is fantastic! Best thing I've seen all day -- loved the drawings with the bowling pins! As well as the fact that you are creative enough to "test" the concept :)

Way to be crafty! It looks a lot like the aviator.

FYI I believe if you buy one aviator with the how-to CD, you can order a second harness without the CD directly from them for 18 bucks. Just shoot them an email and tell them you want two.

Thx everyone. :) I wanted to model it after the aviator because it had the fewest buckles.... & to see if *I* could feasibly manipulate a harness onto a delicate bird.

Meena played w/ it some more, got her feet tangled a bit. She just doesn't care. I can flip her over & she just looks at me like *hi there*....spoiled.

Holly is too hormonal to even consider it....

& thank you Beth, I will certainly email them! I was really hesitant to order 2 at that price.... :) Might just go ahead and do it!

What a great idea to test the harness first. I need to find a way to put on a harness one handed, Zooo is still a little afraid of my left (and only my left) hand. :D

Zooo is a rescue and the rescue got her from a lady who rescued her from a man who kept her in a cockatiel cage in the basement for a year and that's only about 3 years of her 7 year old life accounted for so I have no idea. When she first came home 2 months ago she was TERRIFIED of my left hand, she's a lot better but still trembles if I move it too fast or it's above her but we are working on that with lots of progress poor thing. It is a little weird though, she likes my right hand just fine. :D Thanks for reading her blog, I have fun with it and am glad it made you laugh, she's a riot. :)
