PVC vs. wood play gym

Hey guys. I'm trying to decide which type of play gym to create. The PVC ideas look cheap and easy, but there's something infinitely more charming about the wooden ones. The downside for them, though, are how much longer they take to create and assemble.

Just wanted to get a quick poll of who has which and which you all prefer... and why!

Thanks! :)

Wood, because it's natural they can chew on it and I read somewhere on birdboard that pvc can contain toxins...

Wood because it looks cool! Even though the pvc is easy to wipe down, I think its worth the extra effort for the wood look.

I think you might be referring to this thread: PVC... Highly dangerous!?!? TOXIC?!?!?!

In which case the stuff bought at your average Home Depot was okay. It's "soft" PVC which is bad.

wood... all the way...

PVC is very uncomfortable for a bird to perch on for any length of time... PVC isn't very attractive either...

birds in the wild perch on tree branches, doesn't it make sense for captive birds to perch on wood as well? added bonus, natural wood looks soooo much nicer....

Okay, my birds have wood stands and pvc stands. They prefer the pvc stands. I say make one of each. Give your bird options.

I love the look of wood and they are nice, however the pvc one is much easier to make, clean and change the design of. I have a pvc one and I wrap it with vet wrap which makes it very comfortable for them to perch on. I have all wooden perches of various sizes and rope in their cages.

The only problem with the wood ones is that once they chew through the wood it has to be fixed, mine destroy wood ladders in a manner of hours, so it is harder to replace if they are part of the play gym.

Hmmm. I wonder if there's a way I could make the base PVC but still include wooden/natural perches.

Hmmm.

Ours is mainly PVC wrapped in vet wrap, but we added a big manzanita perch as well. It would be easy to add more. Beaker and Tink have no complaints.
