Types of wood
What types of wood are safe for making toys and stands? We have a ton of scrap wood in the basement, just the type you buy at home depo....do you think that would be safe? I am not sure what kind, but i am sure someone in the house would know. I am going to attempt to make toys for my sun tonight...if they come out successful at all i will post pics. Also what can i use for rope?

Pine is good and it's fairly soft, narrow slats would work best for a small beak. You need to be careful with rope since a lot of rope out there is treated or has threads that unravel and can tangle around toes or necks, causing injuries or death. It's best to purchase the right type of cotton or sisal rope through a good bird supply company on-line. Bird Toys by Grey Feather Toy Creations. Parrot Swings, Bird Boings, Bird Toy Parts, Bird Play Gyms, Natural Parrot Food, Stainless Steel Hardware, Oxine, Bulk Toy Parts & More! is one, there are a number of others with good reputations.
Another good rope is "Paulie" brand rope, not poly rope! Paulie rope does not get long strands. Many bird supply companies sell it. It's very narrow and fits through wooden beads and other toy parts with fairly small openings.
