Toothpicks

Are toothpicks safe for conures to play with? I want to make a foot toy and I was going to use toothpicks for the center.

Question

Also....I wanted to post a pic of a bird toy I made, see if you guys had any suggestions or see any safety issues. I used food dye and rubbing alcohol and baked the pieces in the oven. He really likes the clothes pins. The ball is a cat toy with a bell in the middle....that should be safe right?

As long as it's non toxic plastic, the bell is stainless steel or nickle plated, and the wood is a non toxic type too birds, then yep, should be fine.

If it's a jingle-type bell (circular), those are not safe. Birds can get their beaks caught in the slits, if they can tear into the plastic around the bell.

whiffle balls are great for those kind of things... you can get a cheap bag at any store really... you can tie peices of leather around it for shove peices of paper in there.... that would be an awesome toy...
