cuttle bone

I give my female cuttle bones, but it seems as though she is going through them alot. I can put one in her cage and by the next day it is crumbled and broken up in the bottom of her cage. Now I do feed her eggs with shells all of them time. Should I keep on giving her the cuttle bone or do something else? I do see how she is getting anything from it since she is breaking them up so fast

Chris:

With larger birds, I usually crush cuttlebone with a mortar and pestel and just add the powder to their foods. Try crushing it in a baggie with a hammer. Same idea.

I like to always have cuttle bones in the cage for the birds to munch on as required. They are cheap here so no problem to keep them well supplied.

thanks guys, at first I was worried that maybe she is needing something that I was not giving her, but my vet said that she is very healthly.

I know what you mean,

My eclectus would go through 2 cuttle bones a day if i supplied them.
I think its more so that they are there and they like the feeling of cheweing them up because they are so easy to crunch up.

I have a box of cuddle bone so i let them go through them as they please.
just like kids going through shoes lol

I give my ekkie heaps of cuttle fish bone when i have seen her with toe tap...........there is only crumbs left when she is finished. I do give my birds cuttle fish bones and they love them. I also give them boiled eggs with the shell on it and they love that too.

I actually go to the beach and pick the cuttle fish bone up from the beach. Take them home wash them then put them in the sun to dry. Then store them and give to the birds whenever.................or just as a treat, they love it.

I bought cuttlebone for Scarlett once. She pretty much ignored it or threw it to the bottom of the cage. So--I didn't buy another one.
