Ziggy.. questions about feeding [again :) ]

Hey,

I am the one who posted about the formula coming out of his mouth when he was much younger. All worked out well.

I did take him to the vet when he slowed down in eating last week, and the vet game him a wonderful report.

Here is my question.

Ziggy is 7 1/2 weeks and is giving me a terrible time eating.
He will eat about 15 cc's if I work at it, and if I keep pushing him, most of the time I can get him to eat up to 30 cc, but it is wearing us both out. 30cc takes about an hour and half to feed him.

I put soft food in his cage every hour and he loves to chew on the soft beans and rice (receipe I got off of your bird board). I don't know if he is getting any down in him or not.

It seems like the fresh food is making him dislike the forumla now. I mean, even after a very patient struggle with him to get the small amount of cc's in him, he will love the water I use to clean out his mouth afterwards. He would drink more water than food if I let him. I don't.

Is there something else that I can give him to eat besides forumla? Something he would like?
Apple sause doused with forumla?
Sqeeshed beans combined with juice?
Something?

He is not losing weight, but I don't want him to lose any.

Also, if he is refusing to eat the average 30 -35 cc's? Do I take this as a sign of him growing up? or that I need to feed him more often, just a less amount? How in the world are you suppose to know? How do you keep from getting so scared?

It is Christmas Eve, and I pray all are blessed and have a wonderful day.

He may be starting to wean, but that's pretty early. You can try offering mashed cooked sweet potato or other soft veggies. Ekkies tend to be very good eaters. You could also try some cooked oatmeal. You might want to prepare it with apple juice or apple sauce. Take your time. Serve foods warm, not hot, around 103 to 105 degrees F.

It is very early to wean but i found this website invaluable when i was weaning Ozzie. He wouldn't eat at all...didn't matter how much or what variety i was giving him to eat. Now he is weaned and happy boy, a little underweight but i'm thinking that is because he is a fledgling and still learning to eat all different foods. Hard to judge because there are no guidelines on what an Eclectus should weigh at different ages.
