Sprouting for Eclectus

I recently read that sprouts should be part of the ekkie's diet on an almost daily basis. I knew that they should have them frequently, but never heard about daily. Do any of you sprout for your ekkies? I have done it for Harley, but she doesn't seem to like them very much...

I don't sprout myself...I have tried but they hated it...Prinny dumped it first thing. Aggie plays with them...

Was told from Mikey's old owner that she too tried it, he just threw it around

lets all sprout!!! WOO HOO!!! Sophie goes nuts for "sprout time"!!! Every day at 5 PM. Well 4 PM this time of year. She doesn't seem to grasp the clock falling back springing ahead thing. I go to my local Whole Foods and get my seed there to sprout.

Okay, I have been wondering...what exactly is a Whole Foods store? (Wild Oats?) I hear this term a lot. Also, what is YOUR technique to sprouting? Do you only sprout seed?

Hi- Missi, Whole Foods is an upscale grocery store that carries top of the line fresh produce (mostly organic), great deli and bakery stuff, fabulous meat and seafood. They are marketed to the hilt. It is a social experience just to shop there so dress accordingly. They also charge $$$$$. They sponsor lectures, cooking lessons, community events, etc.

Sprouting- I have tried 4 different sprouting blends on the tiels-they tell me get those stringy things out of the cage and give them swiss chard and kale leaves! They love greens but not sprouts-beats me! When I fostered the 2 IRNs earlier last year, they ate some but not enthusiastically. I wish the tiels would because I like sprouts but its hardly worth it to make them just for myself.

I've heard birds either love the sprouts are hate them. As for me I would call Whole Foods the local "health" food store. The only shopping I do there is for me birds. They have a huge selection of beans and seeds. Next batch I am leaving out the flax seed though. Makes the mix slimy. I got my sprouting stuff from http://www.sproutpeople.com/birds.html http://www.sproutpeople.com/seed/pop...outers.popular I use the easy sprout.

If you would like I will dig up my list of seed/bean I get to sprout. The list was made from bird sprouting mixes.

Missy- Whole Foods is the more expensive version of Wild Oats (we go there when we are in Melborne, FL). It is a great place, but the fresh fruits and veggies, although really nice, are expensive!

Marketed to the what? Do you seriously have to dress up to go grocery shopping?? THAT'S TERRIBLE! If it's so "upscale" then I wonder why Naples, of all places, doesn't have one We just got a Wild Oats, though. How come everyone gets their nuts and seeds from Whole Foods (they suggest this place at LOV as well). What other places can you get human grade, fresh nuts, beans, and seed?????
