Female question
I am fostering a female Eckkie. When I first got her she screamed alot and hated me. She perfers women. Well Over the course of a year she has stop sreaming, plays with toys, forages and also now tolerates men. She loves to just sit on my arm but will not let me give her scrithces very often. If a girl comes over she comes to life. Dances, fluffys up to get scritches and just becomes a new bird. How do I get her to see me in the same loving light? Will she ever get over her prefrence for women or should I allow the rescue to look for a home with a man and a woman in it to continue her progress?

Hmmm, this is a difficult thing to answer. Some birds will gradually over time become more and more tollerant of men/women. Others will get to a certain point and then stop. Is she progressing rapidly, so very slowly? How old is she? How long have you had her?
She may or may not feel the same way torwards you as she does to women. IMO, the longer she is with you, and the more devotion she gets from you, the more she will accepts you. It will depend upon her though. Partialness torwards men or women is sometimes something the bird is born with. Other times, it is a learned habit. Perhaps since she was a rescue, she was abused by a man or doted on too much by a woman. Do you know any of her history? Typically, if you can find out what has caused the behavior, it can be fixed. Also, please keep in mind all birds are different. They have been raised differently, and so they may learn differently than another bird. And, when placing her, let her decide who she wants. She will probably choose a woman, but you never know 8) |
