Question for Ekkie owners???

Hi all,
I am considering adopting a 15 year old female Ekkie. I also have a female CAG, who just turn 1 year old. Does anyone have both an Ekkie and a CAG? Do they coexist okay with supervision? I know it probably depends on the bird, but I am just looking for your experiences. This bird is at a rescue due to her owner passed away. They say she is very loving and has never had a mean day in her life.

Thanks for any input!

Lisa & flock

Ekkies get along well with other 'quiet' birds...so a grey and an ekkie should, in theory, get along.

Go slow and be friendly when introducing. I say get her! I love ekkies...they are the most perfect parrot you can be owned by!

Hi Dani!

Yeah, I really want to get her. What I need to do is to stay OFF of craigslist, etc.... because I want every bird in need of good home! When I got Riley, my husband made me "PROMISE" she was the LAST bird. Then I saw this Ekkie and her pictures and my heart melted!!!!! Well it was perfect timing too, because the new issue of BirdTalk came and one the main articles was about once you own 1 parrot, most people end up with multiple parrots. I showed the article to my husband and told him "SEE - I'm not crazy. It's obvious parrots are addicting if they even write an article about it!" So he said "Well if you REALLY want her - go ahead!" My Mom who also says "You do NOT need any more birds!" even said last night "Go get her if you want her!" Well now my problem.... Craigslist ads only run 7 days and the 7 days were up yesterday!!!!!! I am 1 day shy!!!!! UGH! I emailed the link to craigslist, even though it shows the ad expired, and asked if it was possible for them to contact the seller in my behalf. So now I am waiting on either a reply or a reposting of the ad! I guess if I don't get a response and the ad doesn't relist, then it wasn't meant to be, but OH MAN, I want that birdie BAD!!!!!

Jasmine so far has hated the Peach faced Lovebird and Indian Ringneck (Sasha) that we had. She's a little brat though. They're all individuals, honestly.

I know you are looking at a female ekkie, but I don't have any problems with my male ekkie and my female amazon. They pretend to spar with each other until one gets bored and then they swap cages to eat the other's food. Mostly it's Linus who eats Gabbi's food and Gabbi just plays with his toys and sings.

Did someone say that the ekkie should be fine with other "quiet" birds? Umm...quiet is not an option in my house. Gabbi never shuts up and Max talks in spurts...the cats are in perpetual motion...and 300 lbs of Great Dane charging through the house is NOT silent. Linus seems to go with it...he loves to egg everyone on when it gets really noisy...

Good luck at getting a response from Craig's List or the owner of the ekkie!

Well the rescue that this Ekkie is at posted a different ad for another bird, so I emailed them and inquired about the Ekkie and sure enough they still have her. I spoke to the woman via email yesterday and she seemed pretty interested in meeting me. She was just concerned why I wanted another bird since I already have 3. I told her plain and simple, I LOVE birds! And I was thinking to myself, 3 birds (or 4 if they let me adopt her) is not that many when you consider how many birds other people have! She said she wanted to meet me and my family, but I know my husband won't be able to go, because 1) he has a bad back and bad hips and traveling 100 miles or more would be too much on him. 2) he also has a social anxiety problem when it comes to meeting people he does not know. He even has problems with some people he does know. I told her this, so now I am worried that she might not want me to be the adoptive parront, because she might think that my husband would be too much stress on the bird. She has been really good about emailing me right back, but after the last email where I explained to her why my husband could not come and meet with her, I haven't heard back from her and that was around 6pm last night. Oh well, if it isn't meant to be, then it isn't meant to be, but I know for a fact, that she could not place this little sweetie in a better home than mine! By the way, the birds name is Sayde Rose. I'll post more info. when and IF I hear anything else!

ekkie & cag

I don't think they will get along well enough to trust them together. Especially without supervision. I have a CAG & a lot of baby Eclectus in the same sunroom. ( I breed the eclectus) My grey will NOT allow them on his cage. He will attack them if they climb on it. So I have to keep him in while they are out playing. They learn quickly not to bother him. A nip on a toe is enought to tell them something.
You can have both tho and just share your love.
