Eclectus diet

Has anyone tried the Eclectus transitional diet for "teenage" birds? It looks more like something I would feed my horse.--By the way: "Hi" I have been reading the posts for a while but this is the first time I have posted something myself. I have an 10mos old SI female that I have had since August. This is my first ever bird. I have to say that she is extremely independent--prefers not to be held, handled (is NOT a cuddler) but I love her to death and figure I've got 50 years (LOL--I should live so long) to establish a relationship.

never heard of it, but in all seriousness... natural is best. Quana personally LOVES pellets, so she gets a bowl of pellets every 2 weeks or so, but otherwise she gets a mash.

I have not heard of this either....Peeka loves his nut mix (it's what I would call a trail mix) the best and the next thing on his fav's list would be freshly cut peppers (all kinds very hot all the way to plain old green) I give him a bowl of natural pellets (no dyes etc.) once a week and he just seems to play with them - I don't think he actually eats much of the pellets! I am trying right now to find the "perfect" treat item to use for training - He seems to like NutriBerries - but they are rather large and takes him 5-10 mins. to eat one - so for training purposes not very good - if anyone has any ideas please let me know.
I am sorry Lucy's Mom - I didn't mean to butt in on your thread!!

training purposes- POMEGRANETS! takes less than a minute for Quana to scarf one down (seed and all) and she'll do anything for one.

I emailed Bird-elicious after receiving their product: I just received my first order of your product and just want to double check a statement made on the website "Lady Ellie eats NOTHING but Eclectus BirD-elicious! and has for over 6 years now!" By NOTHING, do you mean you give her no other fruits, veggies, rice, pastas, etc either fresh or frozen? No other prepared products like Beak Appetit, Crazy Corn, Avian Naturals? I thought--besides fresh, fresh, fresh--Eclectus required variety in their diet. What about the other products you sell--the stew and the breakfast? Are they to be served more as an occassional treat--or if on the Eclectus diet--should they not be fed at all? Life will certainly be simpler if all I need to do is keep a bowl of this dry feed in her cage.

This is the reply emailed back to me:
I had to chuckle at your paragraph...I understand your comment. And it's kind of funny to think that we all believe we have to feed all sorts of different foods. And normally, we would. But with BD! we don't! It already contains lots and lots of great organic ingredients, without the artificial preservatives, colorings and added flavorings.

You see, our birds are the first bird to ever be fed BD!
And, because of that, they have been consuming BD! longer than any other birds. We witness, on a daily basis, just how good our foods are for birds. Without adding any additional treats or "moist" fresh foods.

Lady Ellie RARELY receives any treats. We want to see that our food goes the long haul for each species. You might say "we test on animals". So far, over 6 years now, our flock has been limited to almost 100% their species-specific BD! foods. Yes, very rarely we will allow them one of our treats, or a piece of fresh veggie or fruit. (We never feed them another brand of any bird food or treat) But, you know, dry BD! really is fresh veggies and fruits, with the moisture removed. And, look at all of the different ingredients...a highly varied diet, all on its own. Yes, Lady Ellie is healthy in every way. Her feathers glow, she is not fat, she is not thin. She is active, plays, chews and exhibits normalcy in all ways.

We consider all of our other foods treats. The Breakfast foods, the T'ail Mixes, the SeeD-elicious! blends, all treats. And our own flock doesn't receive these foods on a regular basis. Only as treats, and very rarely.

However, we have found that some bird lovers like to feed "treats" to their birds while knowing that the treats they feed are pure and wholesome. And that's why we have developed those treats. Please don't feel that you are required to feed the breakfast foods, then the BD!, then the dinners to offer a complete diet. You don't. But it is kind of fun, isn't it?

At any rate, thanks for giving our foods a try. We hope to help you feed your Ekkie for a very long time...And if we can be of any additional information regarding our foods, please feel free to email us again!

My Best,
Machelle
Team BD!

I am going to try their food but not exclusively. LucyLu likes fresh fruits and veggies--actually LucyLu seems to live everything. But they do offer some neat "extras" I haven't seen on other websites plus their foraging toys are really cool. Website is [url=http://www.bird-elicious.com]

I have heard of many people who feed Bird-elicious to their Ekkies. A lot of them really like the stuff too. As far as ingredients go it is as good as AMD (Avian miracle diet).
Sophie wolfed it down the first couple of days I fed it to her and then wouldn't it. But many others have given it great reviews.

A lot of people on the Land of Vos email list use a lot of their products and love them. Apparently they have these foraging treats that a lot of ekkies adore.

I do know one person that was feeding BirDelicious. . .I think a treat of some sort. . .and they're ekkie started toe tapping. But that was the only person who has complained that way, so I'm not sure if it was that or something else.

If your baby likes it. . .it's pretty healthy. But let them eat other things :) Some parrots could survive on just BD, but ekkies are special.
