Update: Monty & Charlotte
well I haven't posted for ages but i bought a new 8.0mp camera today and took a quick snap of Monty so thought I would show him off again.
I was pretty pleased with the quality of the picture as I don't really know how to operate it properly yet and this was the first picture i took. ![]() Monty also has a girlfriend now named Charlotte and they have started to accept each other but we still keep them seperate when we are not around. (This pic taken with my old camera so not nearly as clear)

My camera is a Canon (EOS 350D)
8.0 mega pixel with a 28-75mm lens Unfortunately we don't know for sure what sub-species of Ekkies they are. I am fairly certain that Charlotte is a RS or maybe a RSxSI considering her size, colouring and the fact that her wing tips reach almost to the end of her tail. Also my text books say there are very few pure SI's in Australia. Monty is another matter. My best guess would be he is a good sized RS. the colouring in the first picture taken with the good camera is fairly accurate while the other picture is a little off (He is much darker green normally) Most of the original breeding stock of Eclectus in Australia apparently originated many many years ago from a zoo who bred too many of two species (SI's and RS I think). Sadly they just put them all into one avairy and they continued to breed and so a lot of the offspring were a cross of the two types. The native Australian eclectus is not abundant living only in the far north of Australian (at Cape York Pinninsula) and is the largest Eclectus species. So if I had to guess I would say they are possibly both Red-sided ekkies but Charlotte is a bit small and Monty is impressively large. What i do know for a fact is that I am lucky to have found such a beautiful boy.
