I lost my ekkie today!

Im lost for words i cant even speak i feel like i have a lump in my throat im at the point of tears...

this afternoon i took my baby eclectus cage out for cleaning i left him on the playtop area above the cage while I went to get the hose connection from the front yard. It was not even 2 minutes by the time i got back he was gone from his cage. after a 30 minute search including all family members frantically searching everywere i spotted him in a large paper tree at the neigbours house he was on a branch about 10 metres up!

I dont have a ladder that high and even if I did he was perched on a slim branch too far away from the center stump to reach him! I called the fire bridage they got their in 5 minutes.

They told me they have done this plenty of times before and the best way to get him down was to hose him so he cant fly too far. So we got the hose out and started hosing him after about 30 seconds he took flight again this time flying over 3 houses and out of sight!!!

The 4 people from the fire brigade and 5 other family members started searching the entire street ... all trees everything ... I went door nocking on every door in the street and looked in their backyard... not a trace !!

I dont know what to do ! and I cant beleive this happend to me! He had one side of his wings clipped so I cannot understand how he got so far up in the air !! Im baffled !

My baby has only been with us for 2 weeks he is 3 months old and still crys for a formula feeding with spoon at least once a day!

I cant imagine were he is now is so cold here freezing in fact! Hes probably hungry... i dunno what to do !

I Cant picture the sight of him being on the floor and something attacking him and hes defensless ! ok now im teary i cant bear it anymore i keep walking out (its night time now) and calling henrys name and whisting hoping I can hear him panting or something ???

Any suggestions people ?

Adam.

I dont have any suggestions for you, but I feel your pain and I am sorry this happened to you and I can tell you that even with both wings clipped, all they have to do is a good gust of wind and off the go, and it is hard to follow as you found out. This happened to a friends cockatiel last year. Good luck, keep searching, I hope your baby finds his way home, but with only knowing you for 2 wks, it might be hard, but I will pray for you and your lil guy.good luck

HUGS

I'm so very sorry. This happened to me once 4 yrs ago with a sun conure. I was a night worker and i was looking for my baby by day. I went 4 days w/o sleep! I called in at work...I'm sorry to say, I didn't get my man back. He was flighted. Only I didn't leave him on his cage, he was in it and I was taking it in. I was tripped by my dog and I fell on top of the cage and it fell apart. And out he flew.

My fingers are crossed. Make sure you make posters, place ads, and even use the radio, notify ALL vets, ALL pet stores and even breeders to alert them he is missing, he might show up in one of those places by a well meaning person.

You can't help your baby worrying yourself in a tizzy. I know, I have been there. Get some rest, when day light comes, good out looking. If he has a favorite toy with a bell on it, take it with you and ring it, maybe he will hear and respond. Keep looking do not give up hope.

how sad! so sorry this happened. i hope he's found and someone is kind enough to try and find the owner. my heart goes out to you! it is something that tho the wings may be clipped they still can manage to get up into the trees. my husband told me he had my caique outside the other day and i almost had a heart attack thinking about the possibility of him getting into the trees altho his wings are clipped! i think everyone should either have their birds in a harness or a cage.

Adam

Some people have had luck using the cage as a way to bait him.Put food and water in it and leave the door open close to the area you have seen him.I lost
a Grey years ago he was clipped and he flew off my shoulder.Luckily I acted quickly and was able to catch him.I learned then that even a clipped bird can fly with a good wind.I hope and pray that you get your baby back.Don't give up.
