Unhappy Selling Eclectus

I made the mistake of having my female Eclectus adopted by a guy who just wanted to sell her for more money than he paid for her. I am moving out of the state and couldn't take my Ruby, the Eclectus, with me. About 3 month ago, I put an adoption posting on Craigslist for Ruby. It took me over 3 months to finally find someone she clicked with and I thought, mistakenly, that he also liked her. I wanted her to be loved like I loved her. He adopted Ruby and know two weeks later, he selling her on Craigslist for over $200 more than what he gave me. I really loved this bird. I have been crying knowing that I may a mistake. I e-mailed him to bring we the bird back for amount that he paid me. I still hasn't responded. What can I do besides go on Craigslist and tell my story and post his personal e-mail?

There isn't a thing you can do.

I've read about this happening 3 or so times now. If you re-home a bird, while you can do all the 'right' things an see how they interact with any potential parronts... you'll never be 100% that the new owner is genuine. I think most probably are, but unfortunately yours wasn't. Although if he does manage to sell it for a higher price... maybe that means the new buyer knows the cost of birds after doing his/her research and is willing to pay that to give the bird a great new life... just keep that thought in your head.

Maybe they've been having trouble with the bird and they just didn't think calling you would help. If you re-homed the bird maybe they think it's pointless to ask you to take it back as you couldn't keep it anyways? People will always try and make quick cash or a profit... shame but it's true.

Thats very sad, I am sorry to hear that. Xen made a good point though, maybe someone who truly will do the right thing will come along and take her off of the @$$-----$ hands who bought her from you... try to think positive.

Sorry that this is happening to you and Ruby. But anytime you use Craigslist, and bunch of those sites out there it is seller and buyer beware.
There are just too many Brokers or people claiming to give your bird a permanent good home but only have profit on their mind.I hope and pray you get Ruby back.

Marcia

Yep- as long as it pads their pockets, birds really dont matter to many! I fell into a trap- helpped a woman all she did was befriend and used till I was of no use, after getting our eclectus's sold them and moved on. So trust I do not anymore.

I find it almost impossible to know for sure that you will be re homing your bird to someone that actually cares for it.

There are many that would give them a good home, but there are probably 5x as many that would just use it to breed, or resell for more.

Nothing you can do about it unless you feel like paying the extra few hundred he wants, then he would probably sell it back to you.

I would also make sure to flag the add, and post your own about the dangers of giving this man any more animals.
Make sure you get your bird back first, however...

We can all pitch in to have him..... uh, nevermind! What an absolute creep to do that to someone. How much is he asking for her? Could you pay all but the $200 if someone came up with the $200 extra to buy her back for you? Can you post the add? Are there private messages on here?

This is so aweful. I am so sorry this happened to you. Terrible.
