Michigan Eclectus Owners?

Hi!

Are any of you located in Michigan? My husband just wants to see an eclectus -live- before we pay for one from across the country.

I suppose I can't blame him.

Please let me know if you're local.

Thanks!

I don't live in MI but I am an owner of a SI Male eclectus named Guapo. I can tell you that you can't purchase a better Parrot. You should join a bird Fanicier club in your area. You will be able to see an Eclectus i'm sure there and meet the owners who can answer questions you might have before your Baby eclectus comes home. You should go to Youtube and search Eclectus Videos, you will see what i'm talking about. They're so cute, smart, talk very well. You will have to research the Eclectus diet. Eclectus are prone to foot tapping. This can sometime happen when their diet requirements are not met. Females sometimes are prone to egg bound. So you have to be careful. Where are you purchasing the Eclectus. Is it from a Breeder or Store. make sure you ask a lot of questions before purchasing the Eclectus. have the Eclectus exam when you first get them home. make sure you find a good vet that knows about the eclectus and their needs.Their first exams runs approx $150.00 to $200.00 due to all the tests they should run. Once the eclectus is home, leave them alone for approx 24 hrs and then make sure you get the Eclectus to step up onto your hand by saying ( step Up ). This is very important. You will have to set boundries from the begining, keep the Eclectus on a schedule, time out of the cage, feeding times, bed time, removing the covers off of the cage. make sure the Eclectus knows how to fly before you have their wings clipped. I hope this helps. Good Luck and please post pictures of your baby once you get them home. JJones1719

Sorry I'm no where near Michigan but I am owned by 7 Eclectus 3 purchased and 4 rehomed. They are my favorite species out of all the parrots and I have been owned by them for 13 years.I have never experienced eggbound in any of my parrots. But in my Eclectus I have had wing flapping,
toe tapping and barbering which was resolved by adjusting the diet.Do lots of research so you are prepared for their diet.I wish you well.
