Adjustment problems
Hello Everyone,
Our female solomon island eclectus Phoebe is my bird. She has been from day one, she'll tolerate my husband and will usually step up for other people but she is definitely my bird. Now when we brought our baby greenwing macaw "Quiche" home Phoebe was very polite and decided to share me with her so I also became Quiche's human. That sort of made things even since our Miligold is my husbands bird and our male eclectus Rafael doesn't care who is giving him attention as long as he's getting attention. Recently we brought home a female Blue & Gold macaw, she was just let out of quarantine a couple of days ago. The new blue and gold has also decided that I'm her human. She'll lunge and draw blood right now if my husband even so much as tries to pet her. Since the macaw has been out of quarantine and moved into our bird room Phoebe's behavior has changed considerably. She recently went in for a full work up at our vets and came back with a clean bill of health so I don't think it's health related. Now when let out of her cage she climbs up on top and goes and sits in the back corner, refusing to come over and say hi to me. The new macaw is also louder than our other two so the boisterousness of the bird room has increased. Does anyone have some tips for me on how to get her to adjust to this? I know it's a big change for her and any advice on how to make her happier would be very welcome. She is still eating well, playing with her toys, and if I scoop her up and take her into the living room she'll settle right down and cuddle. ~Beth Phoebe: Solomon Island Eclectus, Female.
