lol, with my son I find a way to make it appealing. In this situation since that is his favorite character, one day while you are sitting there, just all of a sudden get excited and say................ "I know, how about Obi Pickles, or Obi Kiwi, you know, __kids name__ isn't that your favorite character on Star Wars", then everyone wins and in the end, the bird will be called Obi for the most part since that is the "first" name, lol. Unfortunately this doesn't work on adult men or our new CAGs name would probably not be Chicken, lol. My son is 9 and my daughter is 6 so I have had to get very creative in "making" them see things my way, cause bribery was getting too expensive, lol. If you make it sound like their idea you are close to winning.

I kind of like 'Pickles'. It reminds me of Buddy's wife on the old Dick Van Dyke show. Having said that, I am a guy so I realize that kind of makes my opinion on this matter worthless. Of course one could say, if this is true, that you should have expected the worst and edited your 'green' list accordingly.

Honestly, I know I am horrible at picking out names and always said that if I got married and had a family I would mostly leave the name assignments to my wife but that I would have veto power in case she came up with one I couldn't live with. That doesn't look like it will be a problem.

Also, I wouldn't be above bribery with both your stepson and husband if you've got a name you really want to use.

Tell them you want an original name, since you don't want YOUR obi.. or pickles.. or kiwi.. whatever.. confused with all the other same named birds out there. Worth a shot?

Beautiful Baby!

hehe. . .I like Kiwi. Not so sure about Pickles. But Obi is a great name.

My husband-to-be was set on naming his male ekkie Clover. I kind of liked it, so I would let it stand.

I mean, I have a female ekkie named Scarlett. REAL ORIGINAL there, right? I can't even blame it on her first owner. . .I've had her since she was weaned!! I blame it on being 15 when my parents bought her for me.

Well, it looks like you have no choice but to pay the kid to vote for 'Obi' in the next discussion...

To all the men that was offended by my comment it came out after talking to someone who was having her first child who happen to be a boy.She had lost a baby to a miscarriage. She had went through a lot to conceive again. After all that she left naming their first born up to her husband who picked a name that had no meaning and sounded like a food. This poor boy will now go through life being pick on because of his name. The name was so weird that everyone that heard it said who or what and laughed. That was what I thought of and then I commented. So understand where I'm coming from.

I have heard a bird called Obi-he's a Green Wing Macaw at the store where Merlin,Rosie the Eclectus came from. And Kiwi I named I ring neck parakeet and have heard many different parrots named Kiwi. There also was a Pickles on this board that passed away not too long ago.

I wasn't offended in the least. If anything, I fully admit my naming abilities are limited at best. Honestly, I take everything as good natured fun out here. I sure hope others do to. Life is serious enough.

Life sure is serious enough!

Pickles will be his name though, it seems. Ugh. I guess it's kind of cute, and we've told the breeder tht his name is Pickles. Sadly, now, my step-son is all excited about calling him Obi now, but if the breeders been calling him Pickles all this time, Pickles it is.

It's amazing how long a contention like this can go on.

Seriously.... there's three of us here, heaven forbid there ever be four, we'd never be able to make a decision!

I know how you feel. I couldn't decide on the right name for my male eclectus. He didn't respond to any of the ones I tried so after 6-7 weeks of living with a nameless bird, I let a friend talk me into letting him name my baby. I now have a 2 yr old eclectus named Echo. Only the most common parrot name out there. I've tried changing his name several times but the poor green guy insists that his name is Echo. He argued with me whenever I tried other names. He would repeat Echo! Echo! Echo! So, I pretty much gave up on changing it. Although, he does sometimes call himself Echaboo or Bubba...lol.
