Baby Shampoo

Hi
Just wondering if anyone here uses a baby shampoo with their Ekkies?
My ekkie (Mumble) loves to take a shower and I try bathing him every 2nd day.

Im just currently giving him plain fresh water.

Is it safe to use baby shampoo like once a month?

Cheers

Baby shampoo is normally only used for when birds feathers are dirty or smell (i.e. smell like cigarettes for ex.). Although I don't know anyone who uses it even though their birds are clean, as long as you rinse it off well I see no harm in maybe once a month...

my ekkie loves showers, and he learnt how to fly from downstairs (his cage) to the bathroom upstairs.
He's done it a few times now once looking for my GF and the rest just wants to play on our bathroom sink and shower.

I would never use any type of shampoo - whether it be species specific or not. Water. Good old fashioned water is all you need, along with a good, healthy diet and full spectrum lighting, to keep those feathers beautiful.

I agree. in 32 years I havent used any shampoos and my guys look wonderful. Just water will do the trick, unless there is some reason it needs to be shampooed, and then most times then not, a vet should be consulted to make sure its the correct thing to do.
remember birds can have allergies too. Putting something unnatural on them might only stir up trouble.

you can add aloe to the water, but it more helps with the skin rather than the feathers... the feather health is a reflection of the diet, so a balanced diet is more important than what you add to the shower/misting water.

personally, i don't use shampoo and i don't see a reason to do so, but if you'd want to i agree with monica - once a month shouldn't be a big issue...

I even have issues with tap water and going into the shower, especially if there is high mineral content in the local water. I remember a few years ago some discussion about human health issues, breathing in high mineral content water mist while showering, and what the minerals could do when they get down into the lungs. Don't know whatever happened to that, but that's one reason I use distilled water in a mister to shower my birds with. They do sell filters that fit on a shower head so there is something fairly simple one can do about that. Don't know how effective those are though. Occasionally I will get out a plastic dish pan I have just for this purpose, put in about 2" of water and put the bird in that to get their rump and tail area good and wet.
