Bathing?

Hi everyone,

I know I'm supposed to bathe my eckie, but I'm not sure what to do - we're not up to handling her just yet so that rules the shower out, she doesn't bathe herself in her water bowl, and she seems to hate the misting and I feel bad for upsetting her when I try and do it. She seems to be getting a bit itchy but I don't know how to help her.

When you mist her do you spray her? I find that it is better to mist above the bird and let the water gently fall down on them. It is sort of like how they would be bathed in the rain. If that does not work you could try putting a bowl of shallow water in her cage and she what she does with it.

Hi Matt,

Yeah I tried spraying above her cage so that it falls down on her, but perhaps I'll aim even higher to make it softer. Fingers crossed!

Neither of mine like being misted (it almost seems to irritate them) - but they LOVE the shower. As the shower doesn't seem to be an option for you at this point....another thing I have observed with my ekkies is that they both tend to take baths in their water dishes when I have the vacuum running! I think it must sound like a rain storm...have you noticed any behavior like this with yours yet?

my eccy hates spray bottles, hates baths, but LOVES showers... If you had a shower with one of the detachable hose-heads you could shower her without having to handle her

Seems to be a common thing, Eclectus loving showers but not being misted down. Mine is the same way, but my Grey is the total opposite.

My Eccie will love shower or a misting, but in the first few seconds we find out if he's interested in getting wet or not by his reaction. Usually he's up for it and get's quite excited.
