Question What to ask your breeder?

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I should be asking Savanah's breeder?

She is very busy, But always answers my email's....................

I'm wondering if there is any questions I should be asking.

I would ask about diet. You would probably want to keep it the same at leats while Savanah settles in.

I have a list of everything that she is fed, Including treats she gets.

I think I am just looking for an excuse to keep conversation going with the breeder so that I am overly informed about Savanah, and also leave the avanue open to see more picture's lol..............

I need to put it out of my mind I think.

If you are going to have her clipped, ask that only few feathers are clipped so that she can still fly some!

As I encourage my clients...

Ask -everything- that comes into your mind. Silly stuff, stuff you know (just to see your breeder's viewpoint on it), stuff you're curious about, and even ask your breeder what things you like her to hear clients ask!

I even have my "Top 20 most popular client questions!" for them. Also, ask specific information regarding the particular species you're getting. A lot of breeders jump on the bandwagon for popular birds and have zero clue about their individual needs.

And, because you KNOW later on, you will really want this:

Ask for pictures of her parents!

Ive seen her parents...It was actually Savanah's mother who sparked my love for eccie's :)

The breeder grew up in Africa, And has always throughout her life had parrots of some sort, She also breeds Alex's but has a HUGE range of parrots as pets..

Savanah's breeder doe's clip her baby's wings....and Savanah is no different.

I was leaning towards letting her keep her wings once she has learnt to fledge....But I'm not so sure...Her breeder kind of recomends to keep them clipped, but say's it's really my own choice.

Every other bird/parrot I have kept them cliped, But I was thinking due to my cat It might be a good idea to let her have them for if (heaven forbid) in an emergancy she needed to fly........I do plan to keep them separate for the most part though ...so I don't know.....

I wasn't trying to make the "to clip" or "not to clip" decision for you. That is a personal choice. I think that young parrots need to master flying regardless if they are going to be clipped, and that cannot happen in a day or even a week. Fledging does not mean they have taken their first flight. It means they have mastered flying. Anyway, my point is, if you do want her clipped, ask if your breeder will give her a modified clip so that she can still fly. With a modified clip she will have to work harder to fly, and should not be able to fly to your curtainrods, for example. If you find she can still get more lift than you prefer, you can always have one more primary feather clipped on each wing.

yep. I'm aware that fledging means they have properly learnt to fly. Thanks for the clarification though Sodakat.

Maybe I should have a look around on here for all Pro's and Con's for clipped un-clipped.
