help

Hi there,

I bought home my eclectus hen today, settled in nicely, played, ate her food but I never saw her drink any of her water (changed it twice)

Is this normal ? and how can i encourage her to drink !

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question !

that is NOT a stupid question! I would leave water near her at all times, whether she's out on a stand or in her cage. At least she is eating so that is a very good sign that she is comfortable and settling in. She may have drunk something when you weren't looking. When I brought home a very nervous Pi she wouldn't go down to the lower perch to eat and drink so I put water and food near the perch she was on and she started picking at stuff. If you gave your Eckie fruits veggies and mash that has some water content. As long as water is available near her I don't think you have worries since she ate OK.

I rarely see my six month old hen chicks drink. She'll drink when she's thirsty. Don't worry.

I agree with the others, she'll probably drink when you're not paying attention. Just make sure fresh water is always available.

Now, do you have any pics of the new baby!? :)

A lot of times they don't eat or drink the first day or two home, so you're lucky she's eating!!!

An afterthought here: did she have a bowl in her cage at the breeders, or was it a water dispenser bottle, like a Likit? I'm sure she'll find the water in her bowl when she has settled and is ready to drink, but if she is used to a dispenser, you might want to add that also.

My little guy has been home for almost 2 weeks now and he doesn't drink water unless I literally feed it to him off my finger or guide his face into the water bowl whilst he's following my finger, it's sooo weird. LOL

Update: I saw portions of her food in her water bowl...good sign !!

On a second note, My concern, is her feeding, although she eats...she doesn't eat that much ( i give her a carrot/corn/peas/bean with seed mix) in the morning and evening and she dosent even finish a small mixture, can you guys please make this clear with your eclectus !

One last question, She is a an annoying screamer, she constanly screams every 5 mins (not too loud) when she sees us coming into the living room or hears our voices but whenever we put something over her cage, she becomes quiet, is this typical eckie behavior ?

Another last question (sorry !), When i take her out of the cage and onto my arm (or if my brothers do it) she quickly, climbs up on our shoulder for some reason and stays there but doesn't bite and always stays there !....is this some sort of "dominance" issue ?

Sorry for all these questions ! - Just a new eckie owner
