Nobody told me they were so sweet!

I held a male eckie in my arms for an hour, with my AmazonTiki on the table watching, and he melted into my arms while I pet him. He was the sweetest baby ever. What a doll! I never knew they were so wonderful. Tiki was interested but not mad, he was eating and calling for my son Kyle sporadically! silly boy.

Interesting. I've never met an Eckie that liked me.

They are beautiful though and I know most people love them.

He started out on my wrist, very nervous, then kept inching up and leaning toward my body. Eventually he wanted off my arm all together and just lied on my chest. He's a Vosmari Eclectus, born 7/1, so still very young. I told my husband and son about him and unfortunately they asked about the price... $1200 which is reasonable for one. I called Gail at Aves International and asked if I could change my deposit from the BW Pi over to a male Eckie that she has available, if she does, I can actually afford him, but I don't see how he can be as sweet as the one I met today, wish I could afford him. Gail said she'd think about it and let me know. Hope I hear from her soon.

I tell everyone how great they are! You must not have been listening. :P They do get less physically needy as they get older.

They seemed so removed, I didn't realize how cuddly they are when they warm up to you!

I'm happy I brought Tiki with me. I don't think I'll have a problem with an Eckie and a zon in the same house. Don't you have both too? any issues?

Merlin's in the poop with me today for lunging and getting me again when I was putting his fruit and veg bowl in this morning. As long as food isn't involved he's an absolute love.

lol, maybe you are just not meeting the right ones! Nothing is sweeter than a little baby ekkie.

I have to agree, Dewey is no cockatoo, and when he is hyper the last thing he wants is to be cuddled. Now after a day of playing and getting all tired out he is the sweetest most cuddly thing when sleepy. I LOVE thier happy slurpy, purring sound they make when you cuddle.

Yeah, I have an ekkie and a zon. They are best buds. They haven't always been that way. As babies, they were both too self centered and needy to see the potential in the other. Once Echo was about a yr and a half and Blossom was almost two, their friendship began. They feed, preen, and play but they still love their momma. Together nothing can stop them. Blossom is the impulsive one who wants into everything. Echo is the thinker who makes it happen. A lot of people have both. I'll warn you though, once you're taken in by a male ekkie, they all know. Echo was the first one I met. He was flighty and lunged at everyone else. He snuggled against my chest and didn't want to move. I had to have him. Since then, I've met several males. They ALL demand my attention. Even if there are other people around or people trying to handle them. They yell, run, fall from the top of cages, you name it to get to me to make me love on them. They do have to be handled extra gently as babies since they don't have great balance but once they realize you're one of their people and you know how to love on them, you have no choice! Echo was only $700. The lady was asking $800 but came down for me. That was 3 yrs ago. The price and the demand for them has really grown since then. When I first discovered the females 4-5 yrs ago, I couldn't find many people with them but now the secret is out. They are awesome! There's a male right now I would love to get. Finances probably won't allow it but I would be in ekkie heaven. Good Luck. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about the males. The females can be a little (a lot) different/harder. Still nothing beats them in the looks category.

It's probably a good thing they get less needy and cuddly when they get older, I have a bad feeling work will be IMing me and my hands will be full of Eckie. I was wondering what all the fuss was about Eckies being lovey, I guess I just had to hold one for a few minutes to find out.. and I thought I was jut not the Eckie type! lol. I'm smitten.

Becca, can't believe your zon and eckie preen each other! So funny that they're all onto you now. Weird I noticed today at the bird store all the macaws were wanting my attention, ever since I got Tilly. All the birds seemed interested in me actually, I must have had that 'I want to bring a bird home' look on my face!
