sonny's tough day (sorry..sort of long)

as is my usual practice, i let sonny out of his cage about an hour before his 'papa' comes home from work... his wings are not clipped and he enjoys flying from one room to the next and perches on the fridge, top of the hutch, swing in the middle of a doorway, garden window (where he occupies the bottom shelf to eat and watch the world go by)... i went about my business... about 10 minutes later i hear a very strange 'call' from sonny so i head out to look for him... i cannot find him, but i hear scurrying coming from somewhere--he doesn't answer my calls to him... as i'm looking and calling i hear that strange call again but can't pinpoint where it's coming from.. so i ask our dog (bubba) to go find sonny... bubba heads straight to the hutch and starts whining... so i look behind the hutch, and i see a shape (dark back there) that i think might be sonny wedged between the wall and the hutch... so i dig down for my superhuman strength and tip the hutch away from the wall (it's very heavy)... all the stuff in the hutch goes crashing to the front glass but i'm nervous to tip the hutch back upright for fear of crushing sonny.... bubba starts whining again and is straining to look under the hutch... i look around, and there's sonny... poor guy... he was absolutely traumatized or something--i tried to put him on his garden window and he just sat there and stared at me... when i picked him up he cuddled up close to me but wouldn't fly... so i thought i'd put him in his cage to settle down and as i put him in there, he bit me so hard i thought it would bleed (it didn't)... so he stayed there until his papa got home... he still wasn't acting like the usual sonny... he tried to fly a few times but didn't get very far... as we had dinner (usually he's right in his papa's dinner plate!) he sat on the doorway swing and stretched each wing and leg over and over... after dinner my husband tried to get him to play and do his little tricks (like roll over), but he's just not interested...anyway... my husband decided to put him back in his cage to see if he'd feel better there and sonny flew off his hand and landed further than before so hopefully, not flying is just a temporary thing.. if he still acts strange tomorrow, we'll take him to the doctor on monday... poor guy... he's just so active and curious as a cat...this time it got him in trouble

he seems to be better... not back to 100%... still trying to fly and has some clumsy landings... doesn't seem to be able to get altitude... we can hold his wings out for him and it doesn't seem to bother him... he ate, so his appetite seems ok... we're thinking he may have bruised his chest or something? he was wedged in there pretty tight... his papa is keeping him close and keeping an eye on him... anyone have thoughts about what may be injured?

awww poor baby, sounds like he just had a big scare. I think he will come around, plus he has to get used to using those wings! My parrotlet was very clumsy at first but now is a speeding bullet! Keep us posted.

Awwwww, poor Sonny. Sounds scary indeed. I hope the little guy is okay. Could something have fallen on him? Could he have hurt his chest when he was wedged in there?
I try so hard to ekkie proof my house but whenever I think I've done it, Echo outsmarts my efforts. They are too smart and nosy!

we think sonny is ok... i think he had the you-know-what scared out of him... our house is pretty much sonny-proofed...and whatever wasn't before is now chewed on and we may as well forget about it anyway! no, i don't think anything fell on him... all the stuff in the hutch that went crashing over just stayed in the hutch... luckily i don't own any ming vases or old family heirlooms or crystal.. and again lucky that the polish pottery i had in there didn't crash through the glass doors!! we just got home and tried to coax him out of his cage to say goodnight... he was grumpy so we left him in there... he's such a funny guy... my husband had him in his 'outside' cage and said there were whistling and talking back and forth to each other... in fact my husband was supposed to be painting a shelf thing to hang in my hallway, but come to find out, sonny and his papa were making some sort of contraption to hang over the truck seat so sonny has a perch to sit on while they run around and do short errands... geez... those two... birds of a feather, i tell 'ya... thanks for your concern and i'll keep you posted
