sonny took a turn for the worse...

my husband found sonny at the bottom of the cage this morning... listless... not interested in anything... i left work, picked up sonny and met papa at the avian vet... doesn't look good... she thinks he may have crashed into the wall and has a brain injury...like slow blood leak... while driving over there, sonny wanted out of the box (good sign) so he rode on my chest (still listless) but interested in where he was going... when we got to the vet, he was markedly in a decline... head bowed, eyes closing... she couldn't tell us if she thought he was going to make it or not (just chided me for not having a more positive attitude--hello?? i just wanted a realistic diagnosis)... anyway, he got a sterioid shot and some antibiotics at the vet...and more to take at home... he's now in a small cage... wouldn't eat the juvenile handfeeding stuff but had a few licks of water... i don't think he's going to make it ... i just see decline and no improvement... i'm so sad right now... will keep you posted... has anyone heard of this happening 2 or 3 days after the initial injury?

I'm so very sorry, sending lots of hugs to you and hubby.

Lend to You a Bird

"I will lend to you for awhile, a bird" God said.
For you to love him while he lives and to mourn for him when he is dead.
Maybe for twelve of fourteen years, or maybe two or three.
But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you and should his stay be brief,
You'll always have his memories as solace for your grief.
I can not promise that he will stay, since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught below I want this bird to learn.
I've looked the whole world over in search of teachers true,
And from the folks that crowd life's land, I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to take my lovely bird again.
I fancied that I heard them say,
For all the joys this bird will bring, the risk of grief you'll run.
Will you shelter him with tenderness?
Will you love him while you may?
And for the happiness you'll know, forever grateful stay?
But should I call him back much sooner than you've planned,
Please brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand.
If, by your love, you've managed, my wishes to achieve,
In memory of him you've loved, be thankful, do not grieve.
Cherish every moment of your feathered charge.
He filled your home with songs of joy, the time he was alive.
Let not his passing take from you those memories to enjoy.
"I will lend to you, a Bird" God said, and teach you all you have to do.
And when I call him back to heaven, you will know he loved you too.

I'm so sorry. I lost a bird similarly months ago. It's very hard and a shock. In the early I went to put my hand up because she didn't feel steady on my shoulder and she flew into a wall headlong, very hard and died within seconds. I'm so sorry you had to go through this, please don't blame yourself, there is nothing you could have done, accidents happen it is very hard to live with I know. I'm so sorry for your loss. Please remember the love you shared and the wonderful life you had together, that is what is important. She will be there for you someday when you pass over she will be there. I swear they watch us from heaven and protect us from harm when they pass their love is so great.

I'm so terribly sorry! Poor Sonny!!! My heart goes out to you. Losing Echo would be one of the worst things I could imagine. I am so, so sorry.
May I ask why the vet didn't do any x-rays, cat scan, etc? Are you having a necropsy done? It would be a good idea to know exactly what caused his death.
Again, I am very sorry.
