Introducing 2nd ekkie

Hi everybody

I am thinking of introducing a 2nd eclectus parrot. I currently have a 5 month old hen, and would like to introduce a handraised male. Can anybody explain the procedure in doing so ?

My only concern, is that my female will give the male a hard time (4 month age difference)...is this a genuine worry ?

I think there are three things:

1) New bird needs his own cage
2) Out of cage time together needs to be supervised
3) Don't let one climb on the other's cage if they are out separately.

We had an excellent experience bringing a younger male into our home about 5 months after the female. The female dominated the mutual playtime by claiming the toys first, but I think the males are wired to expect this and are not affected.

After a couple years we caged ours together, but we always keep an empty cage availiable in case they are not getting along, and our male does occasionally put himself to bed in the extra cage. Also, it did not work to use either of their cages as the mutual cage; instead we had to put them both into a new cage together.

Keep in mind that there is never a guarantee that any two birds will become buddies, but they can still enjoy having another bird in the home.
