Red-Sided Eclectus

Hey, I'm deciding on whether to get a red-sided female. I really want a vos, but I can't find any good pics of red girls. Anyone have some of theirs?

If I ever got a female it would definitely be a grand or a vos, Im just not overly fond of the eye ring. Google and lots of pics come up

You don't like the eye ring? That is my fave thing about my Ruby! She is a Solomon Island ekkie.

Ruby is gorgeous!

I like all the female subspecies, really, but do think the eyering adds to their mistique.

My big concern would be trying to keep different subspecies from mating.

Well, I would keep them in separate cages, but they would be in their play room together. Not quite sure I could handle have a bunch of little ones around on top of my 6 dogs. LOL

I love the eyering on my SI but also think the more purply color of the vos and grand are very striking. I love the yellow tail on the vos. I figured male eckie is out now to keep my girl from getting more hormonal when she's older.

First eclectus I ever saw was a Vos/SI female, she was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Her coloring was amazing. But that's a responsibility I'd just assume avoid, that's why I don't mind getting different subspecies because I'm not planning on breeding.

Thanks everyone~! Yes, Ruby is a SI. She is my sweet rehomed girl. She is 3 now, we have only had her since May, and prior to that she was with a family with little kids who hit her cage and tormented her. When we got her she'd not been out of her cage in at least 6 mos. and was very hand shy. She's a total love now!
