Question recipe/food suggestions?? For Picky Savanah! or other tips?

Ok so Im not liking the fact that Savanah will pick what she wants to eat. So anyone have any advice ? Should I just keep trying with the same item at a later time. Like for example say I wanted to give her a piece of orange, and she dosnt want it, should I just try again another day?

Um Also looking for other recipes etc. any tips will be greatly appreciated.

If you freeze up what most people call a mash (cooked brown rice, cooked beans, mixed frozen vegetables, lightly cooked sweet potato) in small portions once a week or so, you will have a basic meal. When you are ready to serve, just add some fresh chopped vegs and fruit to the "mash" and serve. The more foods you offer her while she is young, the greater the likelihood of her accepting a good variety. Chop the pieces small if she won't try new things, then stir together. This is just the very basic, not a 'recipe'. Add whatever fruit/veg you have on hand. Some days she'll want one thing, some days another. Lots of young birds don't want citrus fruits, so don't be surprised if she turns down oranges/limes/grapefruits in big chunks. Continue offering the finely chopped leafy vegs like kale as that is a good source of calcium. Also consider sprouting beans, seeds and grains eventually and plop a few on top of her meal, along with a cherry or two or a couple grapes. Poms and cranberries are always good. Lastly, be sure to let her share your oatmeal/grits/cormeal etc as well as other healthy people food meals. I like to bake birdie bread and freeze portions. This is a good way to sneak in greens, eggs, chopped vegs and fruit and super simple to feed.

Thanx for the idea's, I think Im worrying too much for no reason, But Atleast Im not "Not caring enough" to be concerned.

I went to the the store last night got lots more beans and bean mixes whole grain rice n a few more different kinds of fruit, and some more JUST sunflower seeds wich she seems to love.

It's nice to have more options meals wise for her, For when she dosnt seem to be too interested In what I have already offered.

I mix things different everyday, so she has a variety.

She has on hand, a small bowl of mixed nutts n etc. a bigger bowl of mixed fresh fruit, and later at night I warm her some vegies up, And now also all the bean lentil mixes I got last night.....wich I mixed some vegies in with and some tomato...

I might have to look into this birdy bread, Ive heard of it but hadnt really looked into it.

I also give her fresh seed mix, wich she basicly just eats the sunflower seeds out of.

Im yet to get the pellet's that her breeder uses. Cos of unexpected costs that have popped up. But I will get round to getting them soon. Maybe find some more sprouting mixes for her.

If she likes seed maybe sprout (or soak) some which increases their nutrient value and palatability, but just keep offering the good stuff, eventually the little one will have a go at what you offer and will start toeat some of it. Try cooking some as well, Dusty won't eat fresh Broccoli, but loves it cooked...try cutting the food in different sizes and shapes, one of the authors in Birdtalk used to offer her bird chip like shaped veges as it didn't like vege but loved chips...just persist and get "sneeky".

layered salad

There are lots of layered salad recipies but I thought this one from BirdChannel.com was really fun:

The Layers

1. Chopped greens, which are varied each week. Options include collard greens, parsley, mustard greens, Swiss chard, kale and dandelion greens. (If you have only one parrot, or a few parrots, choose one type of greens, but vary this weekly.)

2. Chopped (¼- to ½-inch cubes) green vegetables, including the following: brussels sprouts, zucchini and other summer squash, jicama, red or green peppers, fresh hot peppers, chayote squash, jicama, green beans, fresh peas, cucumber, celery, anise root, etc.

3. Chopped broccoli and carrots.

4. A mixture of chopped apples, oranges and whole grapes.

5. Frozen mixed vegetables. The containers are then placed in the refrigerator (don’t freeze).

Once a week, prepare a layered salad mix as follows, and place this into individual plastic containers. For one parrot, you might make three quart-sized containers. For 10 parrots, you might make four gallon-sized containers. For 30 parrots, you might make seven two-gallon containers. Make sure that you wash all the fruits, vegetables and greens well. A salad spinner can be used to dry the greens. This mix stays fresh in tubs for up to seven days.

Serving Suggestions

Once everything from the tub is completely mixed together, I add enough of a high-quality seed mix to make up 5 percent of this mix. I might also add a scoop of pellets. This is then mixed together and fed to the birds. (Pellets are optional, but their inclusion into this mix at some point can help with their introduction.) Serve the mix each morning or as often as you need to.
