I think the dark iris color makes the baby girls look more gentle. They look more intimidating when their eyes change when their older, maybe that's why they get a bad rap. Eckie girls are so striking either way. I'm becoming a big fan if SI girls too, not biased or anything

at one year old exactly Sophie's blue eye ring came in. It seemed to happen the day after the yellow went out of her beak.

Jim I think she was talking about the yellow ring inside the eye itself. Sophie still doesn't have that, sounds like around 2years? They look so much more adult with that, a little intimidating too.

Yes, I was talking about the eye color surrounding the pupil. I think its the iris (at least on people it is!).

I took a good look at Cleo yesterday and noticed that her iris is starting to lighten a bit. The pupil is black and the iris is a light brown. She is almost 9 1/2 months old. But maybe the color changes happen at different times on different birds, just like the beak color changes.

This is what I'm talking about, Jim -- here is the pic Graham Taylor posted on his web site of an Aru RS girl. See the yellow around the black pupil? Doesn't your girl have this color eye?
